Holling Hoodhood is really in for it. He's just started seventh grade with Mrs. Baker, a teacher he knows is out to get him. The year is 1967, and everyone has bigger things to worry about, especially Vietnam. Then there's the family business. As far as Holling's father is concerned, the Hoodhoods need to be on their best behavior: the success of Hoodhood and Associates depends on it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

My 6th grade English classes absolutely love the characters and story of The Wednesday Wars. Joel Johnstone brings this novel to life; one of the best readings I've ever heard!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Holling Hoodhood, the protagonist, is unforgettable as a boy trying to figure out just who he's supposed to be in this world.

Which character – as performed by Joel Johnstone – was your favorite?

    Mai Thi--her accent was hilarious!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Holling Hoodhood's fateful meeting with Mickey Mantle was particularly moving, "When gods die, they die hard." So true.

    Any additional comments?

I have purchased all of Gary D. Schmidt's titles as a result of reading this novel. They are outstanding reads for ages 11+.
