I always appreciate when the characters in a book become so real that I feel I have lost friends when the book ends. Stepping on the Cracks definitely felt that way! I enjoyed the elements of patriotism and the window into family life when a member is missing while away "at war". I rarely rate a book with 5 stars, but I had to give this one five, both on the audible site & also on Goodreads.com. I will be looking for more from this author!
This book should come with a warning label: If you are a female reader of a certain age, do not read this book without taking proper precautions! Depends--those full coverage ones--should be worn while reading, especially outside One's own home! You WILL pee your pants, laughing!
Absolutely! I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult books, but this one is by far the best!!!
Yes! They always do! Since I read lots of her books, I expect the unexpected, but I never figure them out!
Hold on---it's quite a ride--an elephant ride!
OH MY GOODNESS!!! This is my new favorite JP book and it's very high on my list of greatest books of all time!!! I couldn't put it down! Any JP reader knows to expect three things of her books:
1. Her meticulous research equals a book that entertains and educates the reader in that sneaky way that leaves the reader more knowledgeable from the sheer joy of partaking in the story!
2. Twists, turns, and more twists! The reader is never going where he or she thinks they are!
3. Even if you are expecting the unexpected, you will still never know what is coming at the end!
Mrs. Jodi Picoult has a talent for transforming simple words on paper and turning them into absolutely beautiful ART!
Definitely in my top ten...and my library contains over 2000 audio books!
I am afraid to answer this because I don't want to give anything away. The ending was beautiful, but there were so many moving points in the story!
Izzy was my favorite in the modern story and Clara was definitely my favorite overall.
I'm not creative enough to do this justice--my failing, not the book's!
I HIGHLY recommend this! I almost never give a book 5 stars!
The story--a young woman receives notes addressed to someone else, reads each one & follows their "instruction" to change her life--is intriguing.
Paige's former husband
Don't want to spoil...when Paige delivers the "last" note to the hotel for the person the notes were actually addressed to.
Yes! The language and play by play sexual info made me blush through the whole book!
I have to credit the author for having the talent for creative and unusual phrases. She has crafted an entertaining story with strong characters. I would have enjoyed it more if Paige didn't have such a "potty mouth" and I could have done without the TMI sexual play by plays. I'm no prude (listen to/read everything from The Bible & Christian fiction to Stephen King & Fifty Shades) but the language and extreme sexual info was distracting from the real story. For those who might be uncomfortable, I would say, "This is a Fifty Shades-type story...IF the main character in Fifty Shades, Anastasia, had a vocabulary that would make a sailor blush!"
I did not read the print version, but listened to the UNabridged audio.
Nana Bollini (sp?)
The Trial of Fallen Angels by James Kimmel Jr. is a wonderful read! I have read mixed reviews about the book, but I can say that it was easily one of the most moving things I have ever read! It is often compared in reviews to The Shack by William Young. I can see the reason for the comparisons. It is definitely fiction, but the fictional story depicts a modern-day example...parable, if you like...of life--the good and evil in each of us, the struggle we each have to balance love and forgiveness, the judgements we must make about our fellow man...and the judgements God must make on us. I don't want to spoil the message, but the book is deep. As with The Shack, it is not intended to be literal. It is merely intended to use a story to demonstrate what might be, in order to view the many sides of each story, each incident that makes up our lives, the reasons behind the choices we make. Ultimately, it's the story of the TRUE meaning of UNconditional love and justice. I recommend it highly. For my friends who might be offended, there are a few, very few curse words...just what I call "minor, true four-letter words" if I remember...and used only when someone is crying out in true, horrible grief. There is much in the story about history, the Jewish faith, the Christian faith, the flood, Noah, and Noah's reason for his sacrifice to God after he and his family left the Ark. There is also a huge message about the love and judgement of God and the power of forgiveness offered by my Jesus!
hilarious, cussing, hilarious!
Cake Icing, Butt Butter, and Tea Lids by Renee Andrews
Too many to choose & I wouldn't want to spoil the story!
Craw...although I would want my hubby along just for...safety!
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this book, but I would warn readers that the story's main character is a young man who is controlled by daydreams and hormones...and many of the other characters are hobos. The language is very strong, appropriate to the situation and characters. The story is "pee your pants funny"!
Definitely in the top 10 of what I call "fiction for fun"! I appreciate a book written about southern women who are bright, funny, intelligent, and upstanding. I appreciate a story about grown women who are not "adult mean girls". I appreciate characters who have flavor. Ms. Albright is very clever with southern phrases! I felt she did a great job in giving her characters southern charm without overdoing it. Some authors seem to have trouble in two areas: writing love scenes and writing dialogue, especially in giving different characters different "voices". I thought Ms. Albright did this VERY well! I'm a southern Grandma and I was impressed that all the characters spoke like I would expect and the scenes with intimacy were beautiful without giving too much information. Well done & ROLL TIDE, Ms. Albright!
Perhaps the situation reminded me a little of another fav, The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks. The characters are very different, though. The southern flavor comes through loud and clear, without being overdone.
I don't want to give anything away, but the "taco cot in the closet" was particularly funny! I also loved the references to Alabama Football, the legendary coach, Bear Bryant, big hair and Aqua Net hairspray to combat the southern heat & humidity!
Again, I will choose carefully so as not to give anything away, but when the main character realized the depth of the love she felt for the man she had given her heart to. That was beautiful.
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE OTHERS TO BE AVAILABLE ON AUDIBLE.COM!!!
Although this book is fiction, I found a much deeper meaning in the idea of how one's life might be changed if a person had the opportunity to forget past disappointments. The idea that one could suddenly have no memory of a friend's betrayal, the disappointments that had clouded the happiness in a marriage, or the stresses of the past decade of life. As a Christian, I found this concept very thought-provoking and made me want to work even harder to be a good forgiver and not allow those negatives of daily life to cloud my life and relationships.
As for the obvious, the story was gripping and entertaining. I found it very easy to imagine being in the place of the main characters. I enjoyed this book so much, I have already downloaded the other two by this author!
Alice...because her situation was a perfect example of why we should not store up hurts and allow them to get between us and the people we love.
I was moved to tears quite a few times during the book and I don't cry easily! I found this a very "deep-thought-provoking" book!
Dramatic Social Breakdown
I have not listened to others.
I LOVED the characters who stopped behaving as society has taught us and started behaving according to those primal natures we all have and either learn to control (hopefully) or at least keep hidden. I could completely imagine that a catastrophic event would bring out the best or the worst in those involved.
Wow! WOW! W. O. W! So many characters, so intricately woven together...so much I never saw coming! I just finished this book and am going to purchase others by this author! LOVED it!
