Everyone has an enemy. For the Child of God, our worst enemy is Satan, but we also deal with the world, and our own flesh in the lust of the eyes, the pride of life. Listen in as Sam, Amy, and Ranson deal with kidnapping, counterfeiting, murder, and telemarketing fraud. Can the Lord still save from sin? Can He still use men and women to spread the gospel to a lost world? Meet Dan Taylor and Gwenn Harper, and watch how the Lord's faithfulness can overcome our closest enemies.

No suspense, no intrigue. I had a very hard time making it through until the end. The first book in this series was better and showed promise. I am not planning to waste my time on the third book in the series.

Professor of psychiatry Elyn R. Saks writes about her struggle with schizophrenia in this unflinching account of her mental illness. In The Center Cannot Hold, Saks draws readers into a nightmare world of medications, a misguided health-care system, and social stigmas. But she would not be defeated. With a strength and force of will that most can only imagine, Saks reclaimed her life and went on to achieve great success.

An honest book about the realities of living with a serious mental illness. This book offers understanding to those who have a loved one who is mentally ill, it impresses those who work with the mentally ill to show compassion and respect, and to those who themselves have a serious mental illness, it offers hope that a fulfilling life is still possible. A wonderful read. I highly recommend it.

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

Beautifully written. A rich story told from the perspective of the loyal dog. This was on my wish list for a long time. I kept putting off listening to it, but I am so glad I finally did. It far exceeded my expectations. Definitely one of the very best books I listened to this year.

I loved this book from beginning to end as the characters grew and their outlook changed over time. The main character begins as a selfish & spoiled northern young woman who begins going to abolitionist meetings only because the man she has her eye on believes slavery must stop. Although she begins her journey for selfish motives, as she gets involved , her heart is won over by the cause. She also learns she needs to put her life into the care of a God who loves all people no matter what differences may separate us on earth.

He's all she can think about, and her life begins to feel like a parade of unhappy anniversaries. Then Stargirl meets her wonderfully bizarre new neighbors: Dootsie, the curly-headed five-year-old "human bean"; Betty Lou, who hasn't stepped outside her house for nine years; Charlie, who sits among the tombstones; hot-tempered Alvina, with that one glittery nail....

When Eden was 10 years old she found her father, David, bleeding on the bathroom floor. The suicide attempt led to her parents’ divorce, and David all but vanished from Eden’s life. Twenty years later, Eden runs a successful catering company and dreams of opening a restaurant. Since childhood, she has heard from her father only rarely, just enough to know that he’s been living on the streets and struggling with mental illness.

This is a well written novel about loving someone who suffers from a mental illness. I appreciated the realistic dilemmas faced by both the person living with the mental illness and the ones who loved him. How does one support this person without trying to control him? How does a person love one with a mental illness and not lose herself in the chaos? Does medication help or does it create as many problems as it is supposed to be solving? The book was beautifully narrated and executed. The story in no way sugarcoated the issues involved in living with mental illness but the characters were not without hope or sprinkles of joy. It was a satisfying read.(listen.)
