I am one of the original subscribers to Audible.com. Some books are better than others, many made better by the narrator. The story in this book is VERY weak, and the narrator is downright horrible. At best he makes the main character's voice acceptable, but his attempt to vary into voices for other characters is so horrible (sounds like childrens' cartoon characters) that I simply could not even finish listening to this book.

It's Dr. Kay Scarpetta's birthday, and she's about to head to Miami for a vacation with Benton Wesley, her FBI profiler husband, when she notices seven pennies on a wall behind their Cambridge house. Is this a kids' game? If so, why are all of the coins dated 1981 and so shiny they could be newly minted? Her cellphone rings, and Detective Pete Marino tells her there's been a homicide five minutes away. A high school music teacher has been shot with uncanny precision as he unloaded groceries from his car.

I am 4 hours into this book and nothing has happened. I don't stop many audio books, but this is one of them. Narration leaves something to be desired as well = deadpan with no intonation.

Expected a lot more from Dan Brown than page after page of tedious descriptions of museums and artifacts sprinkled with a little plot and intrigue in between. Impossible to get through this book and a huge disappointment. It's one of those books you just listen to to get it over with.

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

    Story

This book was a big disappointment. Usually Grisham's books make for a good read or listen. This one did not grab my attention or imagination at all until the last 20% of the novel. Even then it really did not lead in to the ending. Also, while it was obviously fiction, when the setting is quasi "real life" it should bear a remote semblance to reality. This one surely did not. That being said, a different narrator may have improved it somewhat. Narration was slow and monotone.

The tomb of China’s First Emperor, guarded by an underground army of terra-cotta warriors, has remained sealed for more than 2,000 years. Though it’s regarded as one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world, the Chinese government won’t allow anyone to open it. Why? That question is at the heart of a dilemma faced by former Justice Department operative Cotton Malone, whose life is shattered when he receives an anonymous note carrying an unfamiliar Web address.

The story line is mickey mouse; it is impossible to follow the characters because of the chinese names. This series has become quite tiring.

In this fast-paced story, a treacherous path from Scarpetta's past merges with the high tech highway she now finds herself on. We travel back to the beginning of her professional career, when she enlisted in the Air Force to pay off her medical school debt and found herself ensnared in a gruesome case of what seemed to be vicious, racially motivated hate crimes against two Americans in South Africa.

    "Horrible"
    Overall

Probably one of the worst books I have listened to in my 15 years of audio books. More time is spend describing matters not at all relevant to the story than is even remotely acceptable. The whole book could have been effectively done in a short story. The narrator did nothing to help.

Fifty-nine days. That's how long Rennell Price has to live after spending 15 years on death row for the horrifying sexual assault and murder of a girl whose body was found floating in San Francisco Bay. But attorney Terri Paget has dedicated her life to fighting for people like Rennell Price. This time, Terri has a client she believes may actually be innocent, which means that an unpunished killer may still be free.

This book started well, but quickly became mired in an overly extended journey through the justice system, which was interesting to start, but quickly became monotonous and added very little to the book. To my mind, the story could have been told in half the time / pages. I many times debated just not finishing it.
