This is the book the CIA does not want you to read. For the last 60 years, the CIA has maintained a formidable reputation in spite of its terrible record, never disclosing its blunders to the American public. It spun its own truth to the nation while reality lay buried in classified archives. Now, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Tim Weiner offers a stunning indictment of the CIA, a deeply flawed organization that has never deserved America's confidence.

    "History book"
    Overall

I am not much of a history buff, and I got about an hour into this book and was very bored. Though I'm sure it is a good book for those that enjoy history, I have other things I can listen too that will hold my attention better.

I had no idea what this was going to be about, but it is basically how to bluff your way through situations. It's great.
The narrator sounds like this snobby Brit, its awesome.

    "Very interesting topic"
    Overall

I disagree about the narrator. He definetly talks quickly (which takes some getting used to) but he is also pretty funny, and makes it interesting.

The content was great! It was very interesting and I havent read a book yet that is much like that. It has a very different style and unique content.

It was definetly worth the listen.

  • I Am America (And So Can You!)

What The Daily Show is to evening news, The Colbert Report is to personality-driven pundit shows. Colbert brings his sarcastic charm to a half-hour report, tackling the important issues of the day and telling his guests why their opinions are just plain wrong. Stephen stands for "truthiness" and his American right to copyright that word and claim ownership of it. The author describes this as a simple audiobook from a simple mind: Stephen Colbert's.

    Ty says: "Funny, but disappointing."
"Sorry Stevo, ya should have kept it to 30 minutes!"
    Overall

I was laughing my a** off the second i started to listen to the book, but after an hour I just had too much. I love Colbert's style, but i guess i can only take it in smaller doses.

I would probably suggest getting this because it is very funny, but the ranting, though i realize it is on purpose, gets a little old.....

Sorry Stevo, I'll keep watchin the show though!

  • The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World

"This book is in part a detective story. After 9/11 I knew, if I needed further reinforcement, that we are living in a new world - the world of a global capitalist economy that is vastly more flexible, resilient, open, self-correcting, and fast-changing than it was even a quarter century earlier. It's a world that presents us with enormous new possibilities but also enormous new challenges. The Age of Turbulence is my attempt to understand the nature of this new world." (Alan Greenspan)

Terry says: "Tripled my understanding of our economy"
    "Great!"
    Overall

I really liked this book. I am only 24 and I even with 16 years of schooling I know very little of the last 50 years, especially when it comes to the economy. I thought this book was very insightful and though it was a very long book, I was not bored! The first half of the book was about Greenspan's life and all the turmoil and success of the past 80 years. The second half dealt with the global situation currently and deals specifically with the developing nations.

I think anyone that would like to understand how the world's economies have developed over the last 50 years, this is the perfect book to read. I really enjoyed it and would definetly recommend it.

Mark Penn argues that the biggest trends in America are the Microtrends, the smaller trends that go unnoticed or ignored. With years of experience as one of world's most highly regarded pollsters, Penn identifies the new microtrends sweeping the world, such as "Single Women by Choice" and "Sun Haters". Microtrends highlights everything from religion to politics, from leisure pursuits to relationships and will take the listener into the worlds of polling, targeting, and psychographic analysis.

I was very intrigued by the description of this book and all the "rave" reviews it has gotten, but once I got through 4 hours of it I couldn't stand it and turned the radio on. It started out well and I really enjoyed listening to how the demographics of the world has been changing, but it got stale after a while. It seemed like the same idea being expressed..... the world is changing.

John Hart creates a literary thriller that is as suspenseful as it is poignant, a riveting murder mystery layered beneath the southern drawl of a humble North Carolina lawyer. When Work Pickens finds his father murdered, the investigation pushes a repressed family history to the surface and he sees his own carefully constructed facade begin to crack.

Great! Well worth the listen if you are up to it. Good plot development throughout to keep you interested.

Narrator was great as well, which is important with a long read like this.

    Darrell says: "Very Disappointed!"
    "Not worth 16 hours"
    Overall

It was ok.... but not worth it. It had an ok plot but there were tons of undeveloped threads that, after reading, i was very disappointed that the author did not develop.

The narrator was also very bad, and when you listen to a book for over 16 hours it is quite important.

    Not worth the read
