  • The Kid

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Sapphire
    • Narrated By Sapphire
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In The Kid, best-selling author Sapphire tells the electrifying story of Abdul Jones, the son of Push's unforgettable heroine, Precious. A story of body and spirit, rooted in the hungers of flesh and of the soul, The Kid brings us deep into the interior life of Abdul Jones. We meet him at age nine, on the day of his mother's funeral.

"How Can I Get My Credit Back :("

I have read some bad books in my day, but this one was by far the worst book ever. Let's just say I gave it the old college try. I didn't even get to the second part of this book. I was really looking forward to this sequel, Maybe the movie will be better if there is one.

Well thank god I left The Help on my Ipad because I am listening again for this 2nd time.

  • The Help

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Kathryn Stockett
    • Narrated By Jenna Lamia, Bahni Turpin, Octavia Spencer, and others

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

    "One of The Best!!!!!!"

When I first saw the previews for the movie earlier this year, must fist thought as a African American Woman, ok I am tired of seeing Black Women as maids. Then a co-worker of mine saw the movie (African American Female) about 2 months ago and could not stop talkig about it. She then started reading the book and well I jumped on the bandwagon myself. Since then i've seen several black women reading this book while on the train to and from work and they were really into this book.

From the 1st chapter to the last chapter I didn't what this story to end. I was glad they had different ladies narrate this book and Octavia Spencer who reads her own charater from the movie was to funny and one of my fav. I can not wait to see the movie this week, and hope the movie is as good or if not better then the book.

Give this story try, believe me when I tell you, you will laugh your head off, you may even cry. This is a MUST READ or LISTEN

  • Pimp: The Story of My Life

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Iceberg Slim
    • Narrated By Cary Hite
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A blueprint. A bible. What Sun Tzu’s Art of War was to ancient China, Pimp is to the streets. As real as you can get without jumping in, this is the story of Iceberg Slim’s life as he saw, felt, tasted, and smelled it. It is a trip through hell by the one man who lived to tell the tale—the dangers of jail, addiction, and death that are still all too familiar for today’s black community. By telling the story of one man’s struggles and triumphs in an underground world, Pimp shows us the game doesn’t change; it just has a different swagger.

    James Brown says: ""Extremely Real""
"I just couldn't get get into it"

I gave it the old college try, but just could not get into it. The slang that he used was just to much. I got tired of rewinding the story and just gave up. I truly felt like I had to learn Pimp English just to get through this story. Maybe I will try again one day. But for now I rather stick to books written today and not in Slim's hay day.

"Started off Slow but ended with a Bang"

This book really started off slow for me, I guess it's because selfish characters really turn me off. It started to get better when you listen to part 2 of this audio book, it's actually when things start to heat for the characters. When you get to the end, your going to be like what the F!@#!!!!! Thank God the sequel is on here lol!!!!!!!
