When the president of the United States falls victim to a weaponized and contagious strain of the disease, the Chess Team - King, Queen, Rook, Knight, and Bishop - are assigned to protect Sara Fogg, a CDC detective, as she journeys to the source of the new strain: the Annamite Mountains in Vietnam.

Where does Instinct rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

As with all the Jeremy Robinson books I've listened to it is a great book.

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

Jeffrey Kafer is the best narrator I've heard - he does the characters beautifully and keeps you engaged through the entire book!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The toughest special ops team come up against an impossible enemy - the inanimate!

    Any additional comments?

The entire Chess-Team adventures are a great series. What it lacks in believability (sometimes a little far fetched) it makes up for in great edge of the seat story telling and brilliant narration. Thoroughly recommend all of them.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

Would you consider the audio edition of The Martian to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print version, but the audio performance was outstanding.

What did you like best about this story?

So believable and so many uh-oh moments - edge of the seat.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Don't want to spoil anything, but loved the scene where the laptop dies and he jokes about writing a review to the manufacturer.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A bit of everything - learned heaps too.

    Any additional comments?

I can't believe the amount of detail in this book. It is so well written that it's a pleasure to absorb every bit of information while enjoying the storyline like it's a blockbuster movie. I heard this will be made into a movie starring Matt Damon too - I really hope so!

In this Hugo-nominated novel, Neanderthal physicist Ponter Boddit brings Canadian geneticist Mary Vaughan back to his world to explore the near-utopian civilization of the Neanderthals. Boddit serves as a Candide figure, the naive visitor whose ignorance about our society makes him a perfect tool to analyze human tendencies toward violence, over-population, and environmental degradation.

Although I highly recommend book 1, this follow on becomes boring very quickly and fails to inspire imagination like the first book did.
Basically, book 1 felt adventurous and it was exciting to visualize the fantastic ideas the author brought to the story, but in this book there are no new ideas and it goes from being adventurous to a boring love story with barely any excitement.Such a shame, as I was excited after the first book to know there were 2 more to follow.
Having read the reviews for book 3, it appears it doesn't get any better so I'm now searching for a new series to read.

When a disabled spaceship enters Earth's atmosphere, seven members of the advanced Tosok race are welcomed by the world. Then a popular scientist is murdered, and all evidence points to one of the Tosoks. Now, an alien is tried in a court of law -and there may be far more at stake than accounting for one human life.

After a lot of searching and trial and error looking for a new author to enjoy, I stumbled across this book and it's fantastic! The author has a true gift, keeping you enthralled and entertained to the point that it's hard to stop listening to the book. The ideas he comes up with are truly fascinating and believable at the same time.

The narrator is brilliant, bringing life to the characters and placing the right emphasis at the right moments. It's easy to imagine the characters as the narrator speaks for them.

I've now started reading The Neanderthall Parallax series (also by Robert J Sawyer) and I'm now hooked on that!

    Highly recommended.
