It's the perfect listen for your morning commute! In the time it takes you to get to work, you'll hear a digest of the day's top stories, prepared by the editorial staff of The New York Times. Each edition includes articles from the front page, as well as the paper's international, national, business, sports, and editorial sections.

    "Disappointing Delivery"
    Overall

Let me first say this is by no means a critique of the New York Times itself. I love the paper.

I listened to the Wall Street Journal for a month and enjoyed that, but was looking for a little balance politically. So, I figured a month of NYT would shift the balance back towards the left a bit and get me back closer to center. (The Journal seems to be a bit on the conservative side of things to me.)

I read the reviews about chopiness and just hoped it wouldn't bother me. Unfortunately, I found the audio version of the NYT very difficult to listen to. The stories are indeed, as another listener said, cut off at very inopportune times. The selection of stories was fine, just not the editing.

Perhaps this format works for some people, so I suggest you give it a try if you really love the paper. It might help you know which stories you actually want to read. I don't have time for that unfortunately, so I guess I'll be switching back to the Journal.

The format is so annoying that I don't think I'll be listening to any more editions for my month of subscription sadly.

Here's a creative way to make the best use of your morning commute: listen to The Wall Street Journal. Each morning, you'll get the must-hear stories from the Journal's front page, as well as the most popular columns and briefings from Marketplace, Money & Investing, and more. And, every Friday, you'll get a bonus delivery: features, columns, and reviews from the Weekend Journal.

    "Audio version is well done"
    Overall

Would rate this 3.5 if I could.
I read a story or two from the print version fairly frequently, but rarely find time to read more, although I'm always impressed with the articles when I read them, so I looked forward to the audio version. The audio version is well done as far as picking a variety of stories to read and the narrators are pleasing to the ears. It is chaptered so that you can fast forward through stories that you don't want to listen to. Having someone else pick the stories (rather than me reading what I want) made it more evident that the paper leans to the right just a bit. I know, all publications are politically motivated in some way and many are much more obvious about it than the Journal, but it is a bit annoying sometimes. Nevertheless, I'm sticking with the Journal because it is a high quality publication in general.

Jon Stewart, host of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning The Daily Show, and his coterie of patriots deliver a hilarious look at American government.

Since the Daily Show is my all time favorite TV show, I was hoping the book would be similar. It is. Stewart does seem to do a better job of not being very obviously liberal (as he has become on the show of late) which I think it a good thing.

My only complaint is that I'd love to get the unabridged version on audio.
