This was a phenomenal read with every sentence leading you to the next with great anticipation. While the book continues to be banned in China, it's such a privilege to walk along with the author and learn with gasped breaths of new awareness at what was happening. I was stunned at the cultural hypnosis brought on by the time, by the
I kept waiting for a cohesion, a story with a beginning, a middle and an end. The audio reading was quite good and the expectation palpable yet in the end, in the long end, disappointment.
The narrative is excellent. The Reading was wonderful. The story went no where and it was "Predictable". I imagine it's unfair to JK as so much is now expected of her. I'd skip this read.
Superb story, wonderfully read. What a joy it was to hear every word. Definitely a non rush vacation book. Thrilling with a wonderful end to a new beginning.
It's a boy meets girl, special powers, compact non earth beings, two moons, a vegetarian cat with Tolstoy and Shakespear thrown in for good measure kind of book.Warning parents - it's a bit earthy (not for children or non adults). Well worth the time and credit.
Robert Thurman is beyond the doubt a notable Buddhist Scholar. As such, this book is not for the novice or the beginning intermediate level Buddhist. Dr. Thurman goes into great and granular detail on buddhist doctrine. As a Buddhist book on the perspective of death, the story was lost in the detail.
Unbelieveably interesting. One would never suspect the debt of our skill and the breath of our neglect. A psychological thriller, the ending is bone chilling. I would place this solidly in the wow catagory.
Unfortunately, the narration of this book was close to disrespectful. At times the voice of Cortez was nothing more than a very good immitation of "badges, badges, we don't need no stinkin badges" straight from the Treasure of Sierra Madre. In an almost schizophrenic manner, the narrator launched into this immitative harang at times when (laughable) authenticity was attempted. Ultimately, it was just plain irritating.
The great lessons and the great story is very much worth the purchase but this audio reading left much to be desired.
As is typical for Ms. Allende's work, the book is excellently well written. Just listening to her construction of each and every sentence is quite worth the purchase of the book. I continue to be amazed at how well each and every sentence is written. Still, this particular story line seemed to be a chain of descriptions (albeit well done) which did not seem to go anywhere. I wished the ending would have had a bit more. Still, I would highly recommend this book, especially to anyone interested in the "art" of writing. Often, I felt like I was listening to poetry.
Interesting read/listen. It's psychology 101 on steriods. Entertaining. I've taught many a psych courses and this was a refreshing refresher. This book was facts on story telling mode. Well worth the credit !!!
Initially incredibly funny. I was quite pleased with the obvious background and even research that had been done. The first section contains many educational tidbits. Very regretably soon there after, the book deteriorates into very inappropriate language and repeated base narrative involving body parts. The language for the most part contained explitives in every other sentence. Sadly, this is not a book to share with the family or that can be recommended. It's sad because this book could have been very funny and very valuable in the educational potential the name bears. If audible had a return policy, this one would go back.
