No one has ever truly touched Jack Travis's heart or soul...until Ella Varner comes along. She appears one day on his doorstep with fury in her eyes and a baby in her arms. Her troubled sister is the mother and, according to Ella, Jack Travis is the father. But when Ella demands that Jack take responsibility for the first time in his life, he ends up taking much more than that.

I was told "this is not the typical bodice ripper. It's a very good story". No, I'm afraid not. The premise of the story was promising, then it went away. If you're into to descriptive sex this book is for you. I wanted the story. It was a waste of a credit. I will not waste any more time on this.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Having read a few YA books I can't say I was surprised when the story became predictable. There were moments when I was rooting for the main character. Although she was at odds with other characters, her survival skill were lacking. That just made her a putz. One or two times, ok, but all the time? Predictable.
On the whole the narrator was excellent. The story was climbed but never quite reached the top.

I have found that in the past, when a book has lots of sex in it, the reader gets a weak story.
This book is a perfect example. I was interested in the premise. Shape shifters, Navy Seals, intrigue, I couldn't wait. Should have waited. For every interesting event, sex, the description of sex and/or body parts attributing to sex introduced. All right, already. Get on with the story...
Kira sounded competent and determined. She lost her way, big time. The rest of the group were very disappointing.
If you like the "Bodice Ripper" scenarios, this book might be for you. Otherwise, don't waste your time.

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie....

If I were asked to describe this novel, I would have to say this is about an OCD Poly Sci professor who gives into his whiney nature who also is skilled in fighting because he is an ex-bouncer. Jake has a "thing" for Natalie. Jake's feelings for Natalie are akin to self-flagellation. Jake, looking for her, gets into a pickle. I picture Jake looking into the distance, being confounded at each turn. After seven hours, I give up. I don't want to know the end. I don't like Jake or Natalie. He is a total wuss and the only person I like is Jakes Secretary Mrs whateverhername is.

Jacky Faber, Bloody Jack, is back, and this time, she's facing a situation far worse than a ship full of murderous pirates. Curse of the Blue Tattoo, L. A. Meyer's sequel to the enormous popular Bloody Jack, is just as bawdy and entertaining as the original.

Katherine Kellgren is, without a doubt, the best performer/narrator I have had the pleasure of listening to in a very long time. Through her voice, Jacky comes alive with humor, passion and wonderful singing . All the character voices are right on the money and all different from one another.
Seems like Jacky can't stay out of trouble but she somehow manages to set most things right.
Time to reacquaint myself with Jacky. Downloading #3.
    5 stars all.

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

I haven't enjoyed a story like this is a very long time. I'm a Jim Butcher fan. His story's are fast, energetic and crazy paced. This book is in constant motion pulling you along, chapter by chapter until the last word is spoken. Then you want more. Thank goodness there is a second book and hopefully there will be a third.

    Story

I love books and this book I do not love. The story sounded promising but the more I heard, the more disappointed I became. I've read stories when the heroine turns to Jello with just a brush of a kiss, well this heroine became a caricature of herself, and the hero is ridiculous. All posturing and nonsense words were spoken with the stuffiest attitude that I wondered if the narrator was trying to insert some semblance of a story. I felt that the author lost her way after chapter 3. I held on 3/4's of the way through. Couldn't handle anymore. This is the first book I turned off before finishing.

Jack Reacher was alone, the way he liked it, soaking up the hot, electric New York City night, watching a man cross the street to a parked Mercedes and drive it away. The car contained one million dollars in ransom money. And Edward Lane, the man who paid it, will pay even more to get his family back. Lane runs a highly illegal soldiers-for-hire operation.

Picking up a "Reacher", my brain begins the process of gearing for overdrive, a slow acceleration building to an finish both agonizing and justified. Not this one. As I listened I realized this one was different. The quest was methodical and having come from the area described in the story, I was hooked. I will listen to this one again.

New York Times best-selling author Eric Flint’s 1632 presented listeners with a fascinating alternate history of the Thirty Years’ War, through the eyes of a West Virginia community tossed back in time to 17th-century Germany. Here, Flint teams up with acclaimed science fiction author David Weber to continue his epic tale. In 1633, the West Virginians attempt to use their modern-day knowledge to build a resistance against the forces of France, Spain, and England.

Not having read the first book, I was in the dark for a bit, but I became engrossed in the story and didn't want to start over. It took about 3/4 chapters to figure out what was happening, then it took off. As usual, George Guidall did an excellent narration. His woman's voices develop a distinctive pitch so the story moves without abrupt change. I even enjoyed the draggy parts because each one was a great set up for what was to come.
