You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

Would you listen to Unfettered again? Why?

Yes I will listen again. Many of these Authors and Narrators (voice actors) are new to me and so this collection of short stories is a great way for me to preview the writing and reading and determine if they are a good fit for me.

    Any additional comments?

Some of the stories I loved, some I liked and some I hated. Take the tour, it is worth it. You may find some new favorite writers and readers too.

My Big TOE: Awakening, written by a nuclear physicist in the language of contemporary culture, unifies science and philosophy, physics and metaphysics, mind and matter, purpose and meaning, the normal and the paranormal. The entirety of human experience (mind, body, and spirit) including both our objective and subjective worlds is brought together under one seamless scientific understanding.

What would have made My Big TOE: Awakening better?

It would have been better if the Author had anything to say. He should go in to politics. He can ramble on forever and not actually say anything,

The first meditators in history were the shamans, whose practices for contempaltion and connecting with the divine are echoed in virtually every spirtual tradition today. In Shamanic Meditations, Sandra Ingerman invites you to return to the source of human spirtuality-and experience for yourself the enduring power of these ancient practices for healing, guidance, and awakening.

Would you try another book from Sandra Ingerman and/or Sandra Ingerman?

    Not if she reads it.

Has Shamanic Meditations turned you off from other books in this genre?

    Not the Gene.

Would you be willing to try another one of Sandra Ingerman’s performances?

No, she should hire someone else to read.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Annoyed by the rise and fall of her voice, it did not inspire a meditative mood. Every sentence starts out sharp and shrill then dwindles down. Feels like being on the edge of a very large wood saw. UP! then slowly down, UP! and so on. Not relaxing.

    Any additional comments?

The naration was so distracting that I could not enjoy the message or intent of the rest of the book.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Daylight War to be better than the print version?

I travel (Drive) up to 12 hours per week. Filling this time with great stories helps me to keep my sanity.

What did you like best about this story?

Very original world and story line with uniquely interesting characters. The story is told from several different charaters perspectives. From each of the perspectives, it is easy to root for them all even if they are seemingly on opposite sides of the same struggle.

Have you listened to any of Pete Bradbury’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I am not familiar with his other work, after these three books, i will be looking for more of his work.

I absolutely cannot wait for book four after the cliff hanger at the end of book three.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I like larger stories that take time to unfold. Would not want to rush this story.

    Any additional comments?

I am now listening to this story a second time, something i rarely do. I may even listen to it again a third time, very enjoyable.

Where does The Warded Man rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a top rated book for me. As with most books for me, the beginning is slow. It is worth it. Once you get into the story and another world and get to know the characters, you will be hooked.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Warded Man?

The whole book is good. So are two and three!

    CANT WAIT for #4

Have you listened to any of Pete Bradbury’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not heard this reader before. He is good compared to other readers.

If you could rename The Warded Man, what would you call it?

It is a good name fo the book. If i were to give another name, it might give away to much a be a spoiler.

    Any additional comments?

Like Magic? Like killing demons? Want to get away?
