With her disarming, intimate, completely accessible voice, and dry sense of humor, Nora Ephron shares with us her ups and downs in I Feel Bad About My Neck, a candid, hilarious look at women who are getting older and dealing with the tribulations of maintenance, menopause, empty nests, and life itself.

Southern belle BeBe Loudermilk has lost all her worldly possessions, thanks to a brief but disastrous relationship with the gorgeous Reddy, an "investment counselor" who turns out to be a con man. All that's left is a ramshackle 1950s motel on Tybee Island, an eccentric beach town that calls itself a drinking village with a fishing problem.

    "Not a good listen"
    Overall

Just finished listening to "Savannah Blues" on tape with Susan Ericksen as the reader. I loved it! So I did not even do the sample listen for this one because if I had I never would have purchased it. The other reader made you feel as if you were in the middle of Savannah....this one makes you wish you were in the middle of a lake drowning! This would have been more enjoyable as a real book read.

I enjoyed this book. It's pretty short and I didn't want it to end. Very pleasant to listen to. Made my ride fly by. Just a good story.

When Ave Maria Mulligan, a thirty-five-year-old self-proclaimed spinster, discovers a skeleton in her family closet, her quiet life begins to unravel. Comic and compassionate, Big Stone Gap is the story of a woman who thinks life has passed her by, only to learn that the best is yet come. Don't miss the sequel Big Cherry Holler.

Great light read. Enjoyable story and I like her voice (I had to get used to it). I have read a few of her books and have liked them all so far.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    Kindle Customer says: "Great Narration!!"
    "a bit depressing"
    Overall

Great narration. Good ending. It took almost all of part one to get me interested though. I don't like hearing about animal cruelty and human cruelty both of which are prevalent in this book. A depressing look at aging as well. It just wasn't in my top 25.

The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: circumstantial evidence suggests that 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life.

Good story, but I did not enjoy the reader. The only voice that I liked was the voice of Elli...the rest were soo phony.

The story of Sarah, and of history itself, begins in the cradle of civilization: the Sumerian city-state of Ur, a land of desert heat, towering gardens, and immense wealth. The daughter of a powerful lord, Sarah is raised in great luxury, but balks at the arranged marriage her father has planned for her. The groom is handsome and a nobleman, but on their wedding day, Sarah panics and impulsively flees to the vast, empty marshes outside the city walls.

    "good book"

I liked the story and I did look forward to my driving times when I would be listening, but I do think that it could have been a "great" listen with another narrator.

Amid unsightly family secrets, crooked security guards, an apathetic sheriff's deputy, and a jockey the size of a ham sandwich, Spenser's case takes a deadly turn when the attacker claims a human victim - and Spenser could be next.

I thought I was going to dislike the audio at first. The use of "I said","he said","she said" was off the scale! But I actually got used to it very quickly and totally enjoyed the book. I will read another by this author and reader-I think I'm hooked!
