  • Shroud for a Nightingale

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By P.D. James
    • Narrated By Michael Jayston
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Nurse Pearce died grotesquely within the precincts of Nightingale House (Nurse Training School), murder was strongly suspected. Chief Superintendent Adam Dalgliesh came in to investigate, and he rapidly found himself caught in a deadly web of intrigue and corruption. But he wasn't sure if the girl had been the intended victim, and then another nurse died.

    "Terrible audio quality"

I returned this book because the quality was so terrible. Very sad because I was really looking forward to another great P.D. James.

  • Seconds Away: A Mickey Bolitar Novel, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 41 mins)
    • By Harlan Coben
    • Narrated By Nick Podehl
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When tragedy strikes close to home, Mickey Bolitar and his loyal new friends - sharp-witted Ema and the adorkably charming Spoon - find themselves at the center of a murder mystery involving their friend Rachel. Now, not only does Mickey have to continue his quest to uncover the truth about the Abeona Shelter and the Butcher of Lodz, he needs to figure out what happened to Rachel - no matter what it takes. Mickey has always been ready to sacrifice everything to help the people he loves.

Michele says: "Compelling story for the kid in each of us!"
"Poor excuse for a Bolitar novel"
Would you try another book from Harlan Coben and/or Nick Podehl?

What a disappointment The characters seem to have been stolen right out of "Saved by the Bell" complete with a Screech and handsome teen hero. The story line was so lame I didn't even bothering to listen to the end. Shame on you Mr. Coben.

Would you ever listen to anything by Harlan Coben again?

Certainly. I love the Myron Bolitar novels.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

  • The Sixth Man

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By David Baldacci
    • Narrated By Ron McLarty, Orlagh Cassidy

Edgar Roy - an alleged serial killer held in a secure, fortress-like Federal Supermax facility-is awaiting trial. He faces almost certain conviction. Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are called in by Roy's attorney, Sean's old friend and mentor Ted Bergin, to help work the case. But their investigation is derailed before it begins-en route to their first meeting with Bergin, Sean and Michelle find him murdered. It is now up to them to ask the questions no one seems to want answered....

"Wish I had read the reviews PRE-PURCHASE-STAY AWAY"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Everyone will enjoy it immensely as soon as it is re-recorded

Has The Sixth Man turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. The problem isn't the book. It's the narration

How could the performance have been better?

Too many ways to list. You'll never convince me the narrators were in the same room when this book was recorded. The female narrator was atrocious and should be doing facial moisturizer voiceovers - not law enforcement agents. Worst I've ever heard.

What character would you cut from The Sixth Man?

I stopped listening after 20 minutes so I can't comment.

    Any additional comments?

One of PD James novels was blessedly re-recorded which made it a great read and I recommend the same to Mr. Baldacchi.

  • The Swan Thieves

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Elizabeth Kostova
    • Narrated By Treat Williams, Anne Heche, Erin Cottrell, and others
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Psychiatrist Andrew Marlowe has a perfectly ordered life--solitary, perhaps, but full of devotion to his profession and the painting hobby he loves. This order is destroyed when renowned painter Robert Oliver attacks a canvas in the National Gallery of Art and becomes his patient. In response, Marlowe finds himself going beyond his own legal and ethical boundaries to understand the secret that torments this genius, a journey that will lead him into the lives of the women closest to Robert Oliver.

    Sara says: "Such Potential Wasted"
"Couldn't even get past Chapter 2"

This was my first Kostova book and I gotta say, if you are not a fan, think again about spending the money on this book. I tried 4, yes 4, times to get past the beginning of this book but found it too painful to proceed further. Most surprisingly, I love Treat Williams but found his narration tedious. He sounded as uninterested in the material as I was.

  • The Silver Swan: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Benjamin Black
    • Narrated By Timothy Dalton
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Two years have passed since the events of the best-selling Christine Falls, and much has changed for Quirke, the irascible, formerly hard-drinking Dublin pathologist. His beloved Sarah is dead, the judge lies in a convent hospital paralyzed by a devastating stroke, and Phoebe, Quirke's long-denied daughter, has grown increasingly withdrawn and isolated.

    David says: "A great sequel!"
    "Sneaks up on you"

When I began listening to this book I was a little confused and had a little difficulty putting the pieces together. But once they came together I had even more difficulty turning off my IPOD and leaving the car. This is a GREAT story with breathtaking narration. Like a prior reviewer said, I would double back to hear the beauty of the authors phrasing. This is the first Benjamin Black book I have ever listened to and I was captivated by the imagery. Enjoyed every minute of this one and I am heading into Audible to buy more that he wrote and look up more that Tim Dalton narrates.
