The BBC TV soundtrack of the acclaimed Jackanory multi-voice reading of The Hobbit. Broadcast to mark the 3000th programme of the much-loved children's series Jackanory, The Hobbit was transmitted over two weeks and 10 episodes in 1979. It told the gripping story of Bilbo Baggins and his band of dwarves, who are on a quest for the treasure guarded by the fearsome dragon Smaug. As he leaves his cosy hobbit-hole and travels into the wild, Bilbo's adventures begin.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Editing. Delete the beginning and ending intro of each day it was broadcast, it is just fluff that gets in the way and there's no way to scrub forward well in the App.

How could the performance have been better?

Why are the voice actors saying things the narrator should be saying and all without a seconds pause?

    Any additional comments?

I LOVE Tolkien, my License Plate is "Tolkien", but this has to be the strangest version I have and I have at least 5 versions of the Hobbit. Maybe I just don't understand this form of adaptation :(

In The Wind Through the Keyhole, Stephen King has returned to the rich landscape of Mid-World. This story within a story within a story finds Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, in his early days during the guilt-ridden year following his mother’s death. Sent by his father to investigate evidence of a murderous shape-shifter, a "skin-man", Roland takes charge of Bill Streeter, a brave but terrified boy who is the sole surviving witness to the beast’s most recent slaughter.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

    Maybe in paper.

Would you be willing to try another book from Stephen King? Why or why not?

    Already have.

How could the performance have been better?

    Professional reader.

    Any additional comments?

I love Stephen King's writing. Not so much his reading. He's OK for short stories but not anything long. I will buy this again if they use a professional reader.
