What would have made 77 Shadow Street better?

This book was so boring that I could not finish it. Usually, Koontz's books, although not amazing books (except for a few select titles), are still fun to read and often really funny. Not this one. After about two hours, I decided that I have beeter things to do with my limited time. Disappointing!

Blockbuster author Lisa Scottoline returns to the Rosato & Associates law firm with Betrayed, and maverick lawyer Judy Carrier takes the lead in a case that's more personal than ever. Judy has always championed the underdog, so when Iris, the housekeeper and best friend of Judy's beloved Aunt Barb, is found dead of an apparent heart attack, Judy begins to suspect foul play. The circumstances of the death leave Judy with more questions than answers, and never before has murder struck so close to home.

I have read all the other books in the series and this one is not up to par. Too much commiseration and an implausible behavior by the main character. Just plain boring and disappointing. I used to look forward to this author's new releases but the last few were not good (except for the two books that she wrote with her daughter - those are a lot of fun to listen to).

It may not be a monster story à la Cujo but I quite enjoyed this book. I think that Stephen King is, above all, a master storyteller and I really felt like I went on a journey with him. Not disappointed in the least.

Every married couple knows you don't go to bed angry. The corollary, Cork O'Connor realizes, is that you also don't say goodbye when you're mad. When the charter plane Jo O'Connor is on crashes over the mountains in Wyoming in an early winter storm, Cork deeply regrets the heated argument he had with his wife just before she left. An intense search is launched, but bad weather and the steep terrain hinder the efforts and soon the search is abandoned.

I am really enjoying this series. It's not the best written books I've ever read but they're good enough. What I find interesting is the way the author keeps reinventing the series. It's not always completely believable but, again, it's good enough. The author takes you on an interesting adventure in every installment and always includes the People living nearby in his stories. Refreshing. The narrator was changed along the way, not for the better but acceptable if not inspired. I recommend this series; it certainly isn't stagnant.

In Israel, a man clutching a backpack searches desperately for a boat. In Minnesota, Virgil Flowers gets a message from Lucas Davenport: You're about to get a visitor. It's an Israeli cop, and she's tailing a man who's smuggled out an extraordinary relic - a copper scroll revealing startling details about the man known as King Solomon. Wait a minute, laughs Virgil. Is this one of those Da Vinci Code deals? The secret scroll, the blockbuster revelation, the teams of murderous bad guys? Should I be boning up on my Bible verses? He looks at the cop. She's not laughing.

I've read all of Sandford's novels and I'm particularly fond of the Flowers series but not this one. Too many half-developed characters and an implausible story that never grabs you. Good narration though and quite funny at times. I still love you Virgil but leave the international intrigues to Jason Bourne. Minnesota is where the fun is.

Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. The old stone building is the closest thing to a home he ever had. Reacher is there to meet - in person - the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone. But it isn’t Turner behind the CO’s desk. And Reacher is hit with two pieces of shocking news, one with serious criminal consequences, and one too personal to even think about.

If you could sum up Never Go Back in three words, what would they be?

Great book. Consistent with the character development and the rest of the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jack Reacher is of course my favorite character. He's smart, down to earth and resourceful. What's not to like? He's impossibly self-confident but it works for him.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I think that Dick Hill is a fine narrator and he's definitely at his best with the Jack Reacher series. He is THE voice of Jack Reacher.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I always laugh when I listen to a Jack Reacher story. You can't help it - it's full of humour. My biggest reaction though is: What, already over? I have to wait another year now for a new story? Sigh...

    Any additional comments?

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and the Jack Reacher series is always the most anticipated one. Even after 18 books, the character doesn't get old or repetitive. His character is developing nicely and I always learn something new about him. Every year, I feel like I meet an old friend again for a bit of a journey and I'm always sad to say goodbye!

I love Baldacci but this one is a bust. Badly narrated, badly edited and just plain boring. I've decided to stop listening to it after a little more than half the book. It's just a waste of time. It sounds like this is a book written a while ago that got dusted off and sent to press. The technology is old (floppy disks, surveillance videotapes, the concept of "snail mail" having to be defined). And the supposedly smart lawyer is completely clueless when it comes to computers. Couldn't Baldacci have revised and modernized his book before submitting it? Does he need money that badly? Too bad...

Somehow, the only evidence has made its way to the inbox of Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta, over 2,000 miles away, in Boston. She has no idea why. What disappointed you about The Bone Bed?

It's just a boring slow book read in a boring slow way.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    The Hobbit.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kate Reading’s performances?

    Yes.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

That's it. I finally learned my lesson. No more Scarpetta book. This series used to be quite good (I have read all the books, except for the later ones that were just too bad to finish) but I just couldn't finish this one. These books are just not worth my time and credits anymore. The characters are not likeable anymore.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

This book got rave reviews so I decided to try it. I like this genre and the storyline seemed interesting. I tried and tried to like it but about 2/3 in, I had to stop listening. The whining by the two very uninteresting and unlikeable main characters was soooo annoying. The story was not suspenseful, just long and boring. I'm writing this review to let a prospective buyer beware. I have listened to hundreds of books from Audible and this one, in my humble opinion, is not worth the credit!

Jill Farrow is a typical suburban mom who has finally gotten her and her daughter's lives back on track after a divorce. She is about to remarry, her job as a pediatrician fulfills her - though it is stressful - and her daughter, Megan, is a happily overscheduled thirteen-year-old juggling homework and the swim team. But Jill’s life is turned upside down when her ex-stepdaughter, Abby, shows up on her doorstep late one night and delivers shocking news: Jill’s ex-husband is dead. Abby insists that he was murdered and pleads with Jill to help find his killer.

What disappointed you about Come Home?

I can't stand the whining. I taught my kid not to whine from a very early age - I sure didn't want to pay to hear some other kid whine. I love all of the author's legal thrillers. They are well written and full of humor. I also love her two books of short articles. But I couldn't stand this book and I gave it up after a couple of hours (which I almost never do). If the kids have to cry in that book, mentioning it will suffice. I don't want to hear it.

So disappointed. I was looking forward to reading this book. I like a long book and the storyline seemed intriguing. It was well written and well narrated but sooooooooooo slow. It should have been 1/4 of its actual length. And the ending!!!!!!! For me, the only great thing in this book was the translation. Superb! As a translator myself, I understand the challenges involved and they were more than surpassed. Add to that the fact that two different people worked on it and the story was still seamless. Extremely impressive!
