Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist William Tuohy follows Richard O'Kane, America's undersea ace of aces, and a few fearless submariners, during the U.S. submarine war in the Pacific. This grueling battle saw 10 million tons of Japanese shipping sunk by U.S. submarines, but the cost to the U.S. Navy was one in five of its boats, the highest casualty rate of the U.S. armed services.

    "An exciting story"
    Overall

This was a really good story read by someone who had empathy for the main characters and their stressful situations. Try to also read Shadow Divers for insight into the submarine culture of WWII.

Jack Reacher was alone, the way he liked it, soaking up the hot, electric New York City night, watching a man cross the street to a parked Mercedes and drive it away. The car contained one million dollars in ransom money. And Edward Lane, the man who paid it, will pay even more to get his family back. Lane runs a highly illegal soldiers-for-hire operation. He will use any amount of money and any tool to find his beautiful wife and child. And then he’ll turn Jack Reacher loose with a vengeance - because Reacher is the best man hunter in the world.

Most disturbing bad guy detail so far as I have gone in the series, but satisfying ending. Worth my time.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

This is one of my all time favorite audiobooks. The story is fresh and interesting and the performance really compliments and enhances the overall feel of the circus.

What happens when a trained killer discovers, in the aftermath of war, that his true vocation is love? Having survived the killing fields of World War I, Fidelis Waldvogel returns home to his quiet German village and marries the pregnant widow of his best friend, killed in action.

    Larry says: "Erdrich's"
    "terrible waste of time"
    Overall

I kept waiting for the various threads of the story to coalesce into a meaningful or at least purposeful whole. It never happened. Instead there is a series of misfortunes that befall the characters in this story, but none of them moves the overall narrative in any discernible direction. Overall a disappointing, depressing waste of a credit.
