The citizens of Melling are perfectly ordinary—exactly the sort one finds in just about every cozy English village—and to a certain person they might even appear boring. But to Miss Silver, people are always interesting. It has been some years since she gave up work as a governess to become a detective, and her interest in people has served her well. She comes to Melling on vacation—a long postponed visit to an old school chum—but Miss Silver’s business is murder, and her vacations never last long.

Hercule Poirot's quiet supper in a London coffeehouse is interrupted when a young woman confides to him that she is about to be murdered. She is terrified - but begs Poirot not to find and punish her killer. Once she is dead, she insists, justice will have been done. Later that night, Poirot learns that three guests at a fashionable London Hotel have been murdered, and a cufflink has been placed in each one’s mouth. Could there be a connection with the frightened woman?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Monogram Murders to be better than the print version?

    Yes, it was very enjoyable.

What other book might you compare The Monogram Murders to and why?

Somewhat like a Sherlock Holmes mystery, with clues twisting and turning, and red herrings around the corner.

Which character – as performed by Julian Rhind-Tutt – was your favorite?

Julian Rhind-Tutt was absolutely superb in his performance. Though his depiction of Poirot was impeccable, I enjoyed his performance of Sam Kidd the most. Pure genius.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me quite sad, and also angry at what had been done to Patrick Ives.

    Any additional comments?

A very perfect writing style for a Poirot story. Beautifully written. This story kept me interested right through, but at times seemed convoluted, so that one had to go back several times to ascertain the turn if events, and the reasons and motives behind those events. Highly recommended.

An urgent cry for help brings Poirot to France. But he arrives too late to save his client, whose brutally stabbed body now lies face downwards in a shallow grave on a golf course. But why is the dead man wearing his son's overcoat? And who was the impassioned love-letter in the pocket for? Before Poirot can answer these questions, the case is turned upside down by the discovery of a second, identically murdered corpse.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Delightful romance, good narration. Totally enjoyable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Nonesuch himself was as usual wonderfully elegant, but I always enjoy the minor character in all of her books, such as a sister's husband, or a slightly backward friend whose dialogue is so funny, I cannot help laughing in total enjoyment at the absurdities!

What about Eve Matheson’s performance did you like?

    Just right.

Who was the most memorable character of The Nonesuch and why?

    All of them.

    Any additional comments?

I never tire of reading or listening to Georgette Heyer's works.
