This sequel to the acclaimed Primary Inversion continues the story of Sauscony and Jaibriol, each the heir to an interstellar empire, as they become entangled again in the machinations of the Skolian Empire.

"Very uneven, from well-written to horrid"

I was very disapointed, because I had high hopes. Ms Asaro can write, she knows science, she is a romantic. When she sticks to her protagonist, the great Sauscany, she has a wonderful authority. Many of the events of the story do not make sense, and seem to be plot points that have been created to move the story along. The villains, The Highton Aristos, Nazi's and slavers, seem to able to appear at the wrong place and time mucht of the time. They seem to have no educational system and yet technology and advanced civilization. Again I was disapointed. When Asaro is good, she can be very good, but when she is bad- she is horrid

It does not have the energy and drama that I was led to believe by all the reviews. For one it is chick-lit. The romance- which by my standards is listless and tepid, are not conveyed by the text. I like a lot of romantic woman- centered science fiction or fantasy out there, but this does not represent the best. I was unconvinced and not moved by the characters, drama or writing. The book got better towards the end but it does not represent the best as shown by the stars. r

So getting humanity's trust is a challenge. The Yherajk need someone who can help them close the deal. Enter Thomas Stein, who knows something about closing deals. He's one of Hollywood's hottest young agents.

I was disappointed by the story. It seemed to try to be e everywhere as science fiction and social commentary and got nowhere by my standards. I was disappointed by many reviews with multiple stars since that was one of the reasons I bought it. I am a fan of Wil Wheaton and his work adds some gleam to this sorry material, but not enough to buy it. I wish I had seen a negative review and warning to not buy the audible book

Even in Empire City, a town where weird science is the hope for tomorrow, it's hard for a robot to make his way. It's even harder for a robot named Mack Megaton, a hulking machine designed to bring mankind to its knees. But Mack's not interested in world domination. He's just a bot trying to get by, trying to demonstrate that he isn't just an automated smashing machine, and to earn his citizenship in the process. It should be as easy as crushing a tank for Mack, but some bots just cant catch a break.

I am shocked at the numerous reviews of this audible book. I love sci-fi
detective stories, comedy and mixed genres, but this chimera did not
have the success that I hoped for when i bought it. The writing is not funny,
story did not make sense, I did not enjoy it and believe the author did not pull it off.
The narrator was good, but when the story and writing are so bad nothing
    can help it

Court Gentry is known as The Gray Man - a legend in the covert realm, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible, and then fading away. And he always hits his target. But there are forces more lethal than Gentry in the world. And in their eyes, Gentry has just outlived his usefulness. Now, he is going to prove that for him, there's no gray area between killing for a living-and killing to stay alive.

I am of the opinion that a good story is and characters are a kind of architecture. Everything in the book hangs on them. The book opens with an old spymaster who lets an unknown man into his private office. The man threatens his wife and children in France, and he then is willing to give up his trusted assassin, The Gray Man. It does get better later but the falseness of this set-up in the very beginning affected my appreciation of the book as a whole. I have to confess that I hated the film, "The Dark Knight" for the same reasons.
I hate it when stories move by plot points and are not character and story-driven. Curt Gentry, The Gray Man is built upon the this precipice of a story that I could not muster much interest in reading or hearing it. It is like spy porn, everything is a setup for the money shot

In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

not been happy. I listen to many titles and genres, but

I suppose it reflects the poor quality in the genre.

Space Captain Smith is the first book of the Chronicles of Isambard Smith. It’s the 25th Century and the British Space Empire faces the gathering menace of the evil ant-soldiers of the Ghast hive, hell bent on galactic domination and the extermination of all humanoid life forms. Captain Isambard Smith is the square-jawed, courageous and somewhat asinine new commander of the clapped out freighter John Pym, destined to take on the alien threat because nobody else is available.

Jason Rubino says: "Definitely up to Audible's Standards"
"Space Captain Smith not up to Audible Standards"
    Overall

I found Space Captain Smith the worst book on Audible that I ever bought. It was amateurish, poorly plotted and a story that I had to struggle through to finally give up in disgust half-way through. I cannot understand how this book got through the Audible vetting process. I have bought over 100 Audible books and being number 100 is not a good place. The characters wooden, the plot hackneyed, the action not believable, the dialog ... trying to think of an adjective that describes the depth of it. Do not waste your money.

Long ago, Susan Rodriguez was Harry Dresden's lover-until she was attacked by his enemies, leaving her torn between her own humanity and the bloodlust of the vampiric Red Court. Susan then disappeared to South America, where she could fight both her savage gift and those who cursed her with it.Now Arianna Ortega, Duchess of the Red Court, has discovered a secret Susan has long kept, and she plans to use it-against Harry.

Amazon Customer says: "WOW. I'm stunned!"
"Butcher's style usually fun is hackneyed here"
    Overall

I like Jim Butcher. I always expect a big body count, and the voice of Harry Dresden, a modern man, a contemporary, or fantasy contemporary Hamlet. It usually works well. He is usually the voice of reason in a fantastical environment. In this book, Harry seems masochistic, flagellating himself beyond reason. He whines, and moans, bitches and snarls, without the inner toughness and sensibility that is so refreshing in the other books. When pushed to the wall, Harry takes the velvet gloves off and pow!, lets the bad guys have it in the kisses. In this book, his attitude gives no pleasure because our friend ruined our time with his psychodrama. There are some good moments, when he meets the faerie ladies of summer and winter in a Chi-town bar. In this book, Harry needs therapy, and JIm Butcher should give it to him, rather than subject us to it. Try another Dresden story. the narrator is great, sounds like the same actor who starred in the short-lived TV series, which is another reason to like it, but not enough
    this time.

Condemned and shunned for black magic, Rachel Morgan has three days to get to the annual witches' conference and clear her name, or be trapped in the demonic ever-after - forever after.

But a witch, an elf, a living vampire, anda pixy in one car, going across the country? Talk about a recipe for certain disaster, even without being the targets for assassination.

I am a guy that has become addicted to Audible books, both free and bought. I own many books now both fiction and non-fiction I loved the Rachel Morgan book before this one- Black Magic Sanction. It was witty and had great characters. This one lost me early on and I never recovered. Perhaps Ms. Harrison is not being edited properly. In a scene at an airport early in the book, There are seven comments that Rachel will not get on the plane. One would have been sufficient. It is as if the living characters of the previous book became cartoons, acting out their pre-assigned shticks, like Daffy or Bugs, and are not in a living story. I just did not like it or buy it and would recommend that this will be skipped. I will try some of the others and see if they are better

David Bodanis demystifies the world's most famous equation, explaining its science and bringing it to life. He makes clear the astonishing array of discoveries and consequences it made possible and its impact on our daily lives. At last, the masses can understand that Einstein did nothing less than open the door to the inner structure of the universe.

    Robert says: "A good introduction"
    "very disappointed in the presentation"
    Overall

Mr. Bodanis writes that he will explain e=mc2, simply and completely. This is what he does not do.
The human stories of Faraday, Maxwell, lavoisier, as interesting as they may be, are not what I wanted
to hear and not what he said he would do. There is enough meat in writing about the issues of the equation, without getting involved in human stories that have nothing to do with it. I remember I saw a documentary that must have been based on his book. I was disappointed with that too. It is false advertising, not that interesting to me, and one is charitable. I would not recommend it.

Best-selling authors David and Leigh Eddings welcome readers back to the time before The Belgariad and The Malloreon series. Join them as they chronicle that fateful conflict between two mortally opposed Destinies, in a monumental war of men and kings and Gods.

Steven says: "Good Story, Poor Narrator"
"Polgara started off with a bang but lost it's stea"
    Overall

Polgara started off with lovely and poetic writing about a young girl
who comes to learn her destiny from a distant scholarly father and
a dead but very alive mother spirit. So far so good. Growing up, learning
was handled well. Later the politics, anti- witchery views
and other complications added elements to the brew that did not
help the story, in my view. I did not understand where they were going
and destroyed the very edifice the authors were creating. Why?
Parts of the story, rationale, structure and world lost sense and never
gained it again for me. I was very disappointed because of the promise
offered from the first page, that for me was lost half-way through. Try it
    and see what you think.
