There are two sides to every story. When you're Tim Wyman, sometimes there are three. Tim hoped moving to Texas would mean a new beginning, but he soon finds himself falling into the same tired patterns. Until he meets recklessly brave Benjamin Bentley, who introduces Tim to a world of love, sex, and warmth. Certain that society won't understand what he and Ben have together, Tim struggles to protect their relationship, even if it means twisting the truth. Buried beneath his own deceptions, Tim must claw his way to the surface in the hopes of learning to fly.

Please read my review of Book 1: Something Like Summer for a background. This book was Tim's POV on his relationship with Eric. It gave insight to how Tim met Eric and the years after Tim broke up with Ben. Tim was still self centered but one thing was clear, he loves Ben. He made some poor choices but he grew especially Jace showed him how a real man does it.

The audiobook gave me a different feel from book 1. I could hear the whine, the excitement, the pain etc in the characters voices. I think Kevin Free did a great job making me empathize with Tim. It was hard, but the narrator made him real to me.

Tim and his family's opinion of gays really affected how Tim felt about himself. He grew in a Catholic family, and they were also sports jocks. Loving another man would not fly in that kind of circle and so Tim tried his best to be what others wanted him to be. The consequence was that he hurt the guy he loved Ben and he hurt himself. He wouldn't completely let go, but he wouldn't give up either. Tim was just a mess for a long time. I felt him though. I understood his need to avoid being shunned by family and friends. Ben was lucky because his family accepted his choices but it isn't that easy for others. Tim's battle was much harder.

Jay Bells writing is really smooth to me. It was emotional and the characters had depth. I can't wait to read about Jace before Ben in book 3.

    "Have hope...I'd rather have you!"

This is somewhere between a four and a five star book. It was action-packed from chapter 1. Not a dull moment and it was everything I had been waiting for. What a way to close out a series, with a bang. I didn't think Rebecca Zanetti could pull off a second awesome series finale in such a short time. Marked was such a fitting ending to the Dark Protectors and Zanetti turns around a few months later to hit another home room with Jory's book.

This series cements Rebecca Zanetti as one of my favorite authors. Her stories deliver action, great characters and always a family connection that leads you to root for the main characters. Jory was just as fierce, loyal, strong and brave as his brothers. Piper was feisty, smart and perceptive. She was a really likable heroine. These two fit together and their attraction was awesome. They are my second favorite couple, after Shane & Josey. I loved how the conflict was resolved and I was impressed with the narrator. The voices worked and I think fans of the series will be pleased. I had no trouble following the action as the narrator kept a great pace.

I liked this one as it was my first New Species on Audio. I have read all the other ones. I also know what to expect from this series by now. It is a nice enjoyable read and it continues to be a look at society's issue with accepting those who are different from the "norm". What I liked about this one was even though the villain hated New Species, his main motivation was financial gain. So that was a new aspect to the story.

True and Jeanie were a cute couple and they developed nicely. Their chemistry was good and they were likable characters. I sure hope the author has a book planned for Flirt because he needs someone of his own.

I expected more in the book that explored Lena who kept Jimmy on his path of Sobriety. She seemed stronger and together, so I was surprised to her allowing Jimmy to use her so callously. This book had more of a somber tone than Mal's book and I missed the humor that I had gotten used to. Lena's sarcasm didn't resonate with me and Jimmy wasn't redeemed enough for me to enjoy this book as much as I would have liked. I do look forward to the next book in this series.

This audio book kept me enthralled for 3 days. It had humor, sadness but most of all, realistic depiction of characters. I'm not sure what I was expecting or hoping for in the end but the story telling was gripping. Im not sure we needed the other characters POV as they didn't add anything for me, but this story was powerful. I'm impressed with the writing and will check out other work by this author.

A couture wedding dress designer to the rich and famous, Lexi LaCroix's image means everything. Raised on the wrong side of the tracks, her years of polish and hard work are finally about to pay off. But crossing paths with a sexier-than-sin, bad-boy biker who makes her realize how much living she's sacrificed for her success, one touch is all it takes for Lexi to turn reckless. Fredrik Gustavsson never considered the possibility of love, or that anyone could ever understand or accept his dark and bloody lifestyle - until he met Seraphina, a woman as vicious and blood-thirsty as Fredrik himself. They spent two short but unforgettable years together, full of lust and killing and the darkest kind of love that two people can share. And then Seraphina was gone. It's been six years since Fredrik's lover and sadistic partner in crime turned his world upside-down.

This one was the darkest yet and I had to put it down periodically. I knew Frederik would be a tough character to get to know but his book made me uncomfortable.

This book featured Frederik hunting his wife Seraphina and he kidnapped a girl named Cassia to force her to give him information that would led him to his wife. After torturing her and getting no good information, Frederik found that torturing others in front of her yielded better results. So he forced her to watch.

This is when I decided that I will part ways with the series after this book. I will finish it out since I dont like DNFs but these sort of dark romances/stockholm syndrome books don't agree with me.

I will say the 2nd half of the book was much better as Frederic got good info and was able to get the answers he needed. The writing was good but I am just too much of a flower and candy romance reader to get down with this.

BTW, the new narrator was AWFUL. He was another issue that added to my discomfort but the subject matter didn't make me feel warm in my snuggie.

    Story

I enjoyed this book better than book 1, but there is still something missing for me.
In this sequel, Hunter, chief of MoonBound clan has to fulfill the bargain he made in book 1, to marry the daughter of a rival clan. While Hunter wasn't looking forward to mating Rasha, as a leader, he had to create alliances as the human attacks on vampires continue to increase.

Rasha travels to her new clan with her twin sister Aylin as a decoy in case they come across trouble. Aylin is disposable since she has a limp, and she is a second twin who should have been drowned according to clan customs. When the group came under attack, Hunter was able to rescue the princess and they spent some time getting to know each other. Imagine Hunter's shock when he learned that it was actually Aylin, not Rasha that he has been spending time with at the hidden cabin.

The contrast in personalities is vast as Rasha is just awful and Aylin is so sweet. I did find that cliche that the beautiful one was rotten inside and the deformed sister was a gem inside. But it put Hunter in a quagmire--does he do his duty or follow his heart?

The length of time it took to resolve this triangle, coupled with the dangling issues with Mine and the traitor left me unsatisfied.

The world building in this book was much better and more interesting. The origins of the clans, seeing some of the individual's abilities such as Aylin's gift was a good touch to this story. I will continue the series but I wasn't wowed by this one either.

I loved the narrator as Sookie Stackhouse and it took me a couple of chapters to forget Sookie, but once it got going, I really enjoyed her as Emma & Zack.

FBI agents Emma Monroe and Zack Armstrong are investigating a series of missing persons. The only connection seems to be the missing persons are closet vampires (the public is unaware of vampires).
Emma is a Siren and Zack is werewolf. So they have to rely on the supernatural nature to solve this crime but it is definitely a complicated case. Then throw in the fact that you have a sexy seductress with a carnal shape-shifter and sparks are flying everywhere.

I found the writing to be smooth and the story very interesting. It wasn't heavy on romance at all, but focused on the solving the crime. Emma was a likable heroine who did her best to act like a human and respect the human way of life. Zach was also likable as he tried to find his place in both the human and shifter worlds. I like how the author didn't make Book 1 overly complicated and heavy with world building. Some authors use book 1 as an information dump and it makes the book boring. I think after introducing us to characters, the authors can then use book 2 to give us more background and delve more into their past. I will definitely be continuing this series.
