For Gordon Van Zandt, life was one of duty and loyalty to his country, so when 9/11 happened he dropped out of college and joined the Marine Corps. This youthful idealism soon vanished, one fateful day in a war torn city in Iraq. Ten years later, he is still struggling with the ghosts of his past, but must now face a new reality thrust upon him and his family.

At times it seems like the reader is going very fast. Few pauses or natural breaks you'd expect between paragraphs. It made it difficult to follow and made an okay story a bit intolerable.

Other times the reader is just fine. Overall was't happy with this purchase,

The world is on the brink of disaster. Iran has just conducted its first atomic weapons test. Millions of Muslims around the world are convinced their messiah — known as the Twelfth Imam — has arrived on earth. Israeli leaders fear Tehran, under the Twelfth Imam’s spell, will soon launch a nuclear attack that could bring about a second Holocaust and the annihilation of Israel.

I enjoyed the overall story and narration. I listened to the entire book over the course of 2-3 days. However the religious overtones and "twists" of the story made me roll my eyes many times while listening to this.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The ending did not really fall in-line with the rest of the book. Maybe intended to be a surpirse, but really just left me wondering why bother.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Narration was the only saving grace on this book.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The narrator even read out the sub-chapter section numbers. Basically it comes across as a professor simply reading a text book. Only saving grace is that it's historically accurate.
