  • Fablehaven, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Brandon Mull
    • Narrated By E. B. Stevens
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite... Kendra and her brother Seth have no idea their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven.

    J. Gibbs says: "I am so excited this has FINALLY come to Audible."
    "An unexpected vacation"
If you could sum up Fablehaven, Book 1 in three words, what would they be?

    spellbinding, charming adventure

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kendra, she gives you an entry into this magical world and other than a generation of difference in age is the character I am the most like in temperament. I am hoping that in the following books we get to know the supporting cast better.

What three words best describe E. B. Stevens’s performance?

    enthusiastic grandparent

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I think it took us about 3 sittings, but I found myself waiting until we had an opportunity to keep listening. Once we were fully introduced to the world of Fablehaven we did not want to stop listening. Once the adventures really got intense we really, really did not want to stop.

    Any additional comments?

EB Stevens character voices are good, but he reads like he is talking down to his audience. I found it a bit annoying as a parent listening, but my kids were offended, feeling as if he was being patronizing.

  • Neverwhere [Adaptation]

    • ORIGINAL (3 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Neil Gaiman
    • Narrated By Christopher Lee, James McAvoy, Natalie Dormer, and others

A BBC Radio six-part adaptation of Neil Gaiman's best-selling novel, starring James McAvoy as Richard and Natalie Dormer as Door. Beneath the streets of London there is another London. A subterranean labyrinth of sewers and abandoned tube stations. A somewhere that is Neverwhere....

    Gayle says: "Superb"
"London below never sounded so good"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it was one of the first Neil Gaiman books I ever read, and plunged me headlong into a love of his writings. Neil Gaiman has the gift of creating implausible worlds that feel completely real and no matter how dark a situation you find yourself wishing you could be a part of it. Neil Gaiman is a fabulous reader of his own material so I was hesitant to listen to another version, but this cast is superb and brings the story to a new level.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I don't think I cried, but I did laugh and there were several nail biting moments.
