    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Michael Connelly
    • Narrated By L. J. Ganser

In L.A., Cassie Black is another beautiful woman in a Porsche: except Cassie just did six years in prison and still has "outlaw juice" flowing in her veins. Now Cassie is returning to her old profession, taking down a money man in Vegas. But the perfect heist goes very wrong, and suddenly Cassie is on the run - with a near-psychotic Vegas "fixer" killing everyone who knew about the job.

Another great job by Michael Connelly - you really get under the skin of each character and the attention to detail is amazing. I couldn't put this one down. With this book I have completed all of his novels so now I have to wait until October '10 for his next. Oh... the agony!!!!

  • Gehenna Dawn: Portal Wars, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Jay Allan
    • Narrated By Liam Owen
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Jake Taylor was a New Hampshire farm boy who wanted nothing more than to marry his girlfriend, work on the farm, and maybe one day write a great novel. But mankind was fighting the alien Tegeri and their bio-mechanical cyborg soldiers, and UN Central needed men…men to go to war on hostile worlds far from home. Jake wasn't given a choice, not a real one. He found himself torn from home and family, conscripted for life and shipped to the planet Erastus to take his place in the battle lines, never to return.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The book offers little to the genre with each piece of tech better introduced and implemented in other books. Here we have an ancient race leaving gates for us to travel to other worlds - heard that one before? What turned this book from average to below is the over the top portrayal of the United Nations as some Naziesk institution taking over the world and using a trumpted up war to do it. It's right out of right-wing radio.

Would you be willing to try another one of Liam Owen’s performances?

Yes, I thought that narration was fine.

  • Against All Enemies

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Tom Clancy, Peter Telep
    • Narrated By Steven Weber
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For years, ex–Navy SEAL Maxwell Moore has worked across the Middle East and behind the scenes for the Special Activities Division of the CIA, making connections, extracting valuable intelligence, and facing off against America’s enemies at every turn. And of a potentially devastating coalition: What if two of the greatest threats to the security of the United States were to form an unholy alliance?

    Jean says: "Against All Enemies"

Tom Clancy is a poor writer with predictable plot lines. He writes all his novels with a 3rd person omnipotent viewpoint which requires very little literary skill. I used to be a big fan but think I grew out of him in my 20s though I gave this book a listen to. Parts were interesting and he certainly does a great deal of research but every character is flat, every hero perfect, and the action is so constant that it grows boring. I remember when they attacked Ryan’s daughter in a Washington day care center in Executive Orders – now that was an action sequence!

  • Cenotaxis: Astropolis Book 1.5

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Sean Williams
    • Narrated By Christian Rummel, Sean Williams

In the far future, in the aftermath of a mysterious galactic catastrophe, a false prophet comes face to face with his greatest adversary yet: a man who thinks he's God - and might very well be right. While the battle for Earth rages around them, they face off, one wanting to conquer the world and the other to redeem it. The victory may well decide the future of the galaxy, and of humanity itself.

David says: "Don't Start in the Middle"
    "Good for what it is"

While not a stand alone book I would regard this as an essential part of the Astropolis world - well written and a good narrative break from the rest. Well worth $7.
