"A Struggle Listening to Katherine Kellgren"
It has taken me forever to get through this audio book. FINALLY completed it today. I loved the author's other series (Olympians). I struggled to tolerate Katerine kellgren for this book--she yelled the entire time. I'm going to pass on the rest of this series in audio--will try print for the next book in the series and see if that is better. Kevin Free was fun (I would rate his performance a 3).
"Awful"
Dialogue painful. I made it 10 minutes and gave up. I am all for early career books being republished but this was terrible.
"Surprisingly Engaging"
I hung in to the end and am glad I did. Despite its slow pace I actually enjoyed the book. I will look for other books by the author with hopes that that are better edited. Lots of the scenes, especially flash backs could have been cut at least in half (if not out completely). That said the story was interesting and great for a lazy weekend read.
"Read versus Listen"
Enjoyed the story but struggled to get through the reader's horrible accents. Will get the rest of the series to read. Will avoid this narrator.
"Story Stronger than Reader"
Because the setting is Australia for the first part of the book, the reader's inability to speak like an Aussie was painful. At least she gave up after the first few chapters with only a few sentences here or there where the she gives it another try. I'm not fussy about readers, I am disappointed in Rowan's attempt at an accent. I have to give her credit, though, for giving up through most of the book--it was why I could get through it.
The story itself was interesting and I liked the interaction of the Donovans. Less than happy with the heroine who got to be a bit aggravating but I made it through. I've enjoyed Elizabeth Lowells other books more. I suspect I mgiht have liked Pearl Cove more if I read it and skipped this recorded version.
"Finished, But Just Barely"
Interesting story line, with some goofy elements you would expect in a fluff book. What made this book hard to finish was the performance of Xe Sands. Most of the voices were tolerable but the main character was girly beyond what I could tolerate. I might try this series in print for beach reading and just skip the audio versions.
"Good Facts, Surprisingly No Fun"
I expected a fun read and was surprised at the serious tone. The author knew his subject and period which made a 2 star rating hard. I didn't like it because there was no play in the story.
Probably not.
Lightin' up!
"Narrator distracting"
I like Cynthia Eden, but the narrator was not a good fit.
I didn't get pulled into the story because of the reader so I can't really say if the writing is good or bad.
