Logan Gyre is king of Cenaria, a country under siege, with a threadbare army and little hope. He has one chance---a desperate gamble, but one that could destroy his kingdom. In the north, the new Godking has a plan. If it comes to fruition, no one will have the power to stop him. Kylar Stern has no choice. To save his friends---and perhaps his enemies---he must accomplish the impossible: assassinate a goddess.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes and no. Having listened to the first two books, I had to listen to this, the last, or I would have gone crazy. But, as with the first two, I found both the writing and reading lacking in anything really special.

Would you recommend Beyond the Shadows to your friends? Why or why not?

Probably not. I thought the story line trite, reworked themes from other titles in the genre.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

There was something weird in the reader's intonation or word emphasis or something that I can't quite put my finger on. As with the first two books, I kept finding myself re-saying the passages in my head to make them sound "right."

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Probably no.

Kylar Stern has rejected the assassin's life. The Godking's successful coup has left Kylar's master, Durzo, and his best friend, Logan, dead. He is starting over---new city, new friends, and new profession. But when he learns that Logan might actually be alive and in hiding, Kylar is faced with an agonizing choice: will he give up the way of shadows forever and live in peace with his new family, or will he risk everything by taking on the ultimate hit?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I found the story an overworked amalgamation of themes and ideas from other books in the genre, and not well enough written to make it feel different.

Would you be willing to try another book from Brent Weeks? Why or why not?

Probably not. I didn't think the writing was all that good.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Maybe have a coach or something to point out whatever weird problem makes him hard to listen to. I can't place my finger on it, but there's something strange with his emphasis or pauses or something that make him hard to listen to.

Set in the intriguing Scotland of 200 years ago, the third installment in the romantic adventures of Jamie and Claire is as compelling as the first. Now that Claire knows Jamie survived the slaughter at Culloden, she is faced with the most difficult decision of her life. She aches to travel back through time again to find the love of her life, but, in order to do that, she must leave their daughter behind.

What about Davina Porter???s performance did you like?

Forget about whether you "think" you like historical-action-romance-drama type books. One listen and you will be hooked by Porter's amazing ability to make every character come to life with great reading, accents, everything!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes.

New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon enchanted scores of fans with Outlander, her electrifying historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland. Now this sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Twenty years after her strange journey back in time, Claire has returned to Scotland with her daughter, determined to share with her the secret she has harbored since her time travel.

What did you like best about this story?

The books in this series are absurdly addicting. I love the "historical" fiction (I actually have no idea how much "truth" is reflected in the historical attributes and am happy in ignorant bliss), but most of all I love the characters and the over-the-top situations they get into one after another - just when you think there's a lull, they get into something else dramatic and hilarious and perfect for keeping me awake on my long commute.

What about Davina Porter???s performance did you like?

What DIDN'T I like!?!?! I think her reading makes these books (no offense to the author). I honestly don't think I would have taken up any of the sequels if not for the narration, simply because I would have thought it wasn't the sort of book I'd like... but she has me entranced - the energy, the accents, everything!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    YES!

    Any additional comments?

Listen to every one of these books and wait impatiently for the next.
