A New York Times best seller, Founding Brothers is an engrossing work of nonfiction from National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Joseph J. Ellis. It is a book that uncovers the substance behind many of our most cherished historical tales. Here are six fascinating, well-researched chapters involving such icons as George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison.

    Vernon says: "Remarkably moving book"
    "This one is worth reading"
    Overall

Founding Brothers started off a bit slow but when it got off the ground, it was interesting. Ellis got to the heart of the matter by telling us the mini-biographies of the revolutionary heros in story form. He condensed lots of research and made history interesting. He depicted the founders as real people. I felt that Ellis took the romance out of the equation and told about our history in a more believable way. Great Americans are just individuals with short comings who do great things.

The Clockwork Universe is the story of a band of men who lived in a world of dirt and disease but pictured a universe that ran like a perfect machine. A meld of history and science, this book is a group portrait of some of the greatest minds who ever lived as they wrestled with natures most sweeping mysteries. The answers they uncovered still hold the key to how we understand the world.

Alison says: "The Royal Society comes alive."

I am listening to The Clockwork Universe again. There is so much information and the book is so interesting it's one of the few books I've felt compelled to listen to again.

The book gives the culture, belief system and politics during the time the Royal Society began. The author is able to make very complicated ideas pretty simple to understand.

One of the best books I've listened to. Educational and interesting. I recommend this book highly.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Annie M. says: "Hillenbrand could make even laundry fascinating!"
    "Don't miss this book"
