Great series, but the cliff-hanger ending is frustrating, with nearly a year to wait for the next installment. I should have waited before starting the series, particularly this book.
I bought the book because it was on sale, and my first thought as I listened was how silly it was and how unlike anything I usually listened to. My second thought was that it was interesting and engaging. Unlike most books, I could not leave this one for the car - I took it everywhere, and 5 books later, am sorry to have finished the series. I had never heard of steam punk nor had any interest in Victorian novels, but I will, at some point, listen to all five of the Parasol Protectorate series again.
yes. Engaging story line and good character development.
Ron McLarty has done a great job reading the books before with no sound effects or female reader. I found these distracting and wish that he could have just read the book as is, himself. The story has enough integrity in itself not to be "enhanced" in these ways.
