Dorian Gray, a handsome and narcissistic young man, lives thoughtlessly for his own pleasure. One day, after having his portrait painted, Dorian makes a frivolous Faustian wish: that he should always remain as young and beautiful as he is in that painting, while the portrait grows old in his stead.

The wish comes true, and Dorian soon finds that none of his wicked actions have visible consequences. Realizing that he will appear fresh and unspoiled no matter what kind of life he lives, Dorian becomes increasingly corrupt. Only the portrait grows degenerate and ugly, a powerful symbol of Dorian's internal ruin.

The book is very good, if a challenging listen at times. I anticipated the twists & turns of the story, but I didn't care because I was enjoying the gothicness of it all. Simon Vance does an excellent read.

Phileas Fogg, a distinguished member of London's Reform Club, takes up a wager to circle the globe in just 80 days. Together with manservant Passepartout and a detective named Fix, Fogg makes a fantastic world tour utilizing every means of transportation available in the 1870s. This is a marvelous travelogue mixed with dazzling suspense, delightful fantasy, and lively comedy.

The story is what it is - a straight adventure story from its time - and as that it's often quite clever and fun. But whenever the narrator had to put on the voice of the Indian princess I cringed, and when the Americans sounded like John Wayne, I was done.

Elizabeth Bishop is admired for her great technical prowess and her careful observation of everyday objects. A 1955 revision of her 1946 book, North and South, won Bishop a Pulitzer Prize. She also served as Poet Laureate. Often associated with poet Robert Lowell, as they were close friends, Bishop's work is quite different in that she avoided the personal in her poetry.

I just love her voice reading this poem. Dry, descriptive, in a mezmorizing way.

Sing your way to a new language, anytime, anywhere! The new enhanced edition of Rush Hour Spanish includes two audio programs, a bonus music-only version of favorite Rush Hour songs, and a free downloadable word game (see www.berlitzbooks.com for link). Original music and catchy songs help you remember everyday words, phrases, and sentences, and the exciting storyline keeps you involved. Fun to use alone or with your family!

I am really having fun with this!!! And, the words are sticking in my memory, which is great. I could care less if it's cheesy, it works and the songs help me remember and recall how to say things. And the story keeps me engaged.

They really need to make Rush Hour Spanish 2!!!
