not my favorite, but some interesting information here. enjoyable - not the best, but worth the read. I think Bryson does a great job narrating his own books.
Had me on the seat of my pants more than usual. I really enjoyed this book. I don't comment much, I rate, but rarely comment... this one is a winner...
I guess the one thing I didn't like, were the consistent STUPID moves by one of the main characters... it's the only thing that itched. He did not come off to me as being as stupid as some of the moves he made.
I was expecting Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything, and I didn't get it. It just didn't capture me the same way... also, not a fan of the occasional ultra-liberal high and mighty inserts targeting paranormal and other "sciences"....
Perhaps it was Jake who ruined it for me. I'm not a fan of this narration. Stick to the screen Jake. I'll have to try reading this one in the paper version.
certainly one of if not the funniest book he's written. Home run here... Excellent job Rob McQuay. I'll listen to this again before the year is out.
definitely worth the read. a very smart book and interesting take on the roots of violence and how it's changed over the years. something to think about.
This is a must read, especially for Torrance natives, like myself. What an amazing story. I'd say one of the best books I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I'm off to purchase the hard cover for my bookshelf. Do not second guess - just buy this book.
my wife was reading this for a book club, so I listened to it so I could relate with the book club party - we hosted the review for this book. damned if I didn't end up enjoying the heck out of it and ended up heavily participating in the book club discussion. what an interesting concept making for a different than normal read.
Had me interested from page 1... having not liked The Gold Coast as much as other Demille books, this one was awesome. one of the funniest books yet... also, the narration was perfect.
