In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. Sheriff Holston, who has unwaveringly upheld the silo’s rules for years, unexpectedly breaks the greatest taboo of all: He asks to go outside.

This book exemplified the good and bad in humanity by brining to life a tale of struggle.

When society ceases to exist, who can you trust? After the collapse of the nation's power grid, America is under martial law - and safety is an illusion. As violence erupts around him, Morgan Carter faces one of his most difficult decisions yet: whether to stay and defend his home, or move to a more isolated area, away from the prying eyes of the government. He and his family are hesitant to leave their beloved Lake County, but with increasingly suspicious activities happening in a nearby refugee camp, all signs point towards defecting.

    Story

This book encompasses some very good characters that are developed over the series. My chief complaint with the story is the lack of a credible antagonist. I will not go into details as not to spoil the plot. I have thoroughly enjoyed the story in the post "Event" society and I am looking forward for more. Having said that I most say I would have given this book a better rating if it wasn't really half a book. I don't know if the author or publishers are just trying to make the most money they can and take a two or three book series and stretch it out to four or five. I would be very disappointed if the next book in this series is just as short and doesn't wrap up the storyline. I would consider looking for a new series even though I like the characters and storyline in spite of the poorly developed antagonist.
