I really regret that this book was not up to Victoria Dahl's usual standards. However, I was entertained and I'm not sorry I bought it. I hope her next book is much better.
I've been checking Audible almost daily since the book came out. I'm glad to say I didn't have to wait too long. Once again Ben A. takes us on a thrilling ride. Some reviewers have said this story is scattered, but I say go with it and enjoy the different tangents. Ultimately, you will be gobsmacked by the ending. I can't imagine this series without Kobna Holdbrook-Smith's remarkable performance. I believe this is Holdbrook-Smith's best performance ever. He's amazing and you can tell he really enjoys reading these stories. The only negative is that we have to wait for the next one to come out.
This is a light, sweet love story with a strong Christian theme. I probably would not have purchased it if I'd been warned about the theme as it does not match my spiritual beliefs.
*** Spoiler Alert ***
This series has been a roller coaster ride from the very first book. The final story takes us back to the platform in what I consider to be a satisfyingly soft landing. I've been predicting she'd end up with Sam since the middle of the series. It's the only natural conclusion. She'd have to be changed to be with Eric long term, and Sookie Stackhouse as a vampire just wouldn't be right. Each book is filled with wild characters and implausible plots - that's what makes this series so much fun! This book followed the pattern and I'm happy it gave us an ending that left me feeling that Sookie could finally live a happy life.
Ms. Harris stayed true to Sookie's character. As another reviewer said, the entire series is really about Sookie's personal growth. I believe that the reason Ms. Harris included so many characters from the past is to show how she's gone from being crazy Sookie, at the beginning of the series, to being beloved Sookie whose friends showed up when she needed them most. What's wrong with that?
As for the few people who claim they'll never read another Charlaine Harris book - don't be stupid! I've read every other book by CH that I could find and LOVED her other series', especially the Grave and Shakespeare series. I can't believe they haven't been made into TV shows yet. I regret she ended those series, too. I am really looking forward to reading the next CH book. I'm sure it will be awesome!
I loved this book the same way I love any book that makes me laugh out loud. It was cleverly written and Amanda Ronconi is a great narrator. Can't wait for the next instalment, if there is one.
I can't get enough of this series. I wish Ms. Briggs would write faster. Other than Mercy's constant guilt, I find her the smartest, toughest, most likeable female protagonist ever. I love that she can take care of herself as well as those she loves. Also, I love the narrator. She makes every book worth listening to over and over.
While the story was okay, I got very tired of hearing the bickering between the authors via their notes to each other. It was too much of a struggle to finish listening to the story, so I stopped well before the end. I bought it because of The Spellman series - perhaps the funniest books I've ever read. I am very sorry I bought this book. I'm going to go reread Lisa Lutz's Spellman books. They made me laugh out loud and will be funny no matter how many times I read them. I hope she writes many more of them.
Loved the story, love the narrator but I was sorry to finish the book. Can't wait for the next one.
I'm not sure which was worse - the story or the narration. After much consideration I decided that the writing was so dreadful that no narrator could possibly improve the story. I gave it 1 star because they don't offer a minus score. The main character came across as selfish, arrogant and downright unappealing. After 5 chapters I fast forwarded to the end just to find out "who done it" and felt glad to wipe this book out of my memory and my iTunes. I'm so sorry I wasted my money on it. Take my word - it's a complete waste of time. Purchase at your own risk.
Loved this new take on the life of a vampire. The story and narration were both excellent. I highly recommend it. My only gripe is the length of the book (short). I didn't mind buying it on special but I did not, and probably won't, pay the usual asking price for the rest of the books in the series. It was good but not good enough to justify the expense. Audible - please put the rest of the books on special or lower the regular price.
