  • Daughters of Eden

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Charlotte Bingham
    • Narrated By Kim Hicks

Daughters of Eden focuses on the lives and fortunes of four very different young women at the outbreak of the Second World War. Marjorie, left at a boarding school by her emigrating mother; plain Poppy, pushed into marriage with a mean-spirited aristocrat; Kate, despised by her father, but determined to prove herself; and man-mad Lily, who turns out to be the bravest of them all. That all of them are chosen to work undercover for the espionage unit at Eden Park is a surprise, not least to them.

AmyX says: "An amazing book everyone should read."
    "Got tired of the stories"

For some reason I just got plain tired of the story lines. They simply didn't hold my interest and I never finished this book. I am a huge fan of the genre; so it wasn't that. It just kind of fizzled for me.

  • Play Dirty

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Sandra Brown
    • Narrated By Victor Slezak
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Griff Burkett has a multimillion-dollar contract with the Dallas Cowboys. But at the end of his football career, deep in debt, a crime kingpin offers him a chance to resolve his loans by throwing a game. Griff agrees, and walks into an FBI sting. After serving time, he finds only closed doors. Then he is summoned by eccentric millionaire Foster Speakman. Speakman, a recluse since a car accident left him crippled, is impotent. Deadly consequences ensue when he hires Burkett to impregnate his wife.

Dave says: "Typically satisfying Sandra Brown novel"
    "Average Listen, that's all"

Not a lot here. Typical Sandra Brown, if you like her style, then you should like this read. It seemed like she might be intentionally trying to appeal to the male reader more on this one. References to female body parts, male erections and farts.

Unlike other reviewers, I actually thought parts of this were NOT predictable. However, I thought the big climax (Epiloque) was rather boring.

  • Outlander

    • UNABRIDGED (33 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Diana Gabaldon
    • Narrated By Davina Porter
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Lulu says: "The Reason for the Existence of Audio Books"

First off, thank you Davina Porter!
Finally an unabridged version of Outlander. For all of us Gabaldon fans, a true dream come true. This was fantastic to listen to. Can't tell you how many times I have read the book or how many people I have given the book to as gifts! It is just a great escape. I read all kinds of books, too. If you have never tried Historical Fiction this is a great place to start; it edges on Romance - I think Jamie and Claire have sex about 500 hundred times throughout the series, but thats what makes it fun! I learned a great deal about Scottish and European history from this series. This book is the best of the bunch. They all get very long winded after this one. Read it and enjoy.

I am so jealous of anyone reading it for the first time!

  • The Surgeon: A Rizzoli & Isles Novel

    • ABRIDGED (5 hrs)
    • By Tess Gerritsen
    • Narrated By Dennis Boutsikaris

Tess Gerritsen was a successful internist who left her practice to focus on her children and her writing. Gerritsen's medical suspense novels have consistently won critical and fan acclaim, and now, with The Surgeon, she delivers her most gripping work.

    Elizabeth says: "The Surgeon"
    "a good thriller"

This is a good thriller that is not predictable. Is is bloody and gross and exciting. It will keep you wanting to listen to more. I didn't find it quite as fabulous as the other reviewers but, it is definetly worth listening to.

  • Dear John

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 20 mins)
    • By Nicholas Sparks
    • Narrated By Holter Graham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life - until he meets Savannah, the girl of his dreams. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart. But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist.

Kathy says: "As always my favorite"
    "just awful"

I have read the Notebook, Message in a Bottle and a couple of others, the first two were great and they have all gone down hill from there. The narration of this book does nothing to help it, his voice is monotone and "tinny". Dear John is predictable from page one. Save your money; this is just awful!

  • Water for Elephants

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Sara Gruen
    • Narrated By David LeDoux, John Randolph Jones
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    Kindle Customer says: "Great Narration!!"
    "Very good"

The credit for this great listen really must go in part to the incredible narrators; beautifully voiced. Full of passion, I felt the emotion in his voice so many times it brought tears to my eyes. This is a well written book and an easy read. However as others have noted - quite difficult to listen to if you have a great love and devotion for animals as I do. I have never gone to circus' for that reason so I am not sure why I chose to read this. But it was quite terrific.

  • A Breath of Snow and Ashes

    • ABRIDGED (14 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By Diana Gabaldon
    • Narrated By Geraldine James

With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife, Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence, with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie's death, along with his kin.

    Theresa says: "disappointing"
"If you are a Gabaldon Fan you will love it"

Finally a great unabridged version of the Gabaldon books! This was great to listen to (I couldn't tackle the book). The story line wraps up a few things that have been hanging out there for a while and intriques us for more. As always, Geraldine James was excellent, other narrators, should strive to be like her.

  • Eclipse Bay

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By Jayne Ann Krentz
    • Narrated By Mary Peiffer

Their grandfathers hated each other. Their fathers hated each other. And as the next generation of the Hartes and Madisons, Hannah and Rafe are expected to hate each other, too. But Hannah Harte remembers the long-ago night on the beach that revealed Rafe as much more than just "that disreputable Madison boy".

    Dorothy says: "Terrible"

Sorry, but this is garbage. Couldn't even finish it. People just don't talk the way that the author has them talking - so silly and trying to be clever with every sentence. And a note about the narrator: it sounded like she had a sappy little grin on her face the entire time while reading..quite annoying.
