Wish I had known I had it already in another book before wasting a purchase. I like the story and performance very much however.
I was up to Chapter 3 before I realized there were different people speaking! None of the voices had different inflections and it was much different in Between, Georgia.
I love Neil Gaiman. This book is NOTHING like Neverwhere, Wolves in the Walls, the Graveyard Book, Fragile Things or the Emerald City. It had way too much crude vulgar sex and the language was atrocious. Besides the story just dragged on and on and seemed pointless. I got to the second half of the book and just gave up. Why torture myself? I wasted that credit!
I couldnt find it funny. I cringed throughout over the 'heroine's' clumsiness and constant wrong moves. There were several loose threads in the story consisting of delicious mysteries that I thought would unfold, but never did. They were left unfinished and I was left asking for closure. I found the heroine annoyingly stupid for her age and was constantly astounded by her idiocy.
This was really a great book. It kept me intrigued and glued to the book. I listened intently and it was a page turner. The narrator had a good voice and was acting rather than reading (something many narrators forget) and each character had a different voice, which is extremely important when listening so as to keep characters organized. It is a Victorian cozy with a hint of Harry Potter. Delicious.
The book was engrossing, and I couldnt wait to pick up the tale the next time I listened. It kept me hanging on. It is truly a pleasure to have a book that you don't want to turn off and anticipate turning back on again.
The story was too predictable and unrealistic to me, and the narrator's voice was too repetitive; there was no distinguishing between narrator or characters, and the cadence and ultra femininity of the voice was annoying. Couldnt finish it.
