Eleven year-old Portia and her younger brother, Foster, spend a summer with their cousin, Julian, engaged in more than the usual summer pastimes of sun, fun and games. The children discover a fascinating abandoned summer resort, consisting of deserted crumbling Victorian summer homes surrounding a vanished lake, which is now a swamp. But, best of all, they discover and befriend an elderly eccentric brother and sister who tell them the story of Gone-Away Lake.

My daughter and I loved this book. It was a wonderful relaxing summer adventure. We wanted to be those children!

    "Horrible Narration"
    Overall

After listening to all of the other books read by micheal cramer and kate reding, this was absolutly horrible, the narrator barely paused through the reading, no emotion, no different tones for different characters, used questioning tones for statements, i was lost more than i knew what was happening because he'd run from one person to another and you never knew who was speaking, mis-pronouncing names and places, so you had no idea what he was talking about, not to mention that it is abriged, cutting out 18 hours worth of detail, the reason people love Jordan to begin with, why after having the first six books be amazing they would decide to ruin it with this, i do not know, this was a huge disappointment, i can't wait to get back to the unabriged versions read by Cramer and Reding, this was an awful thing to listen to im just happy it was only 6 hours.
