  • Temples, Tombs, and Hieroglyphs: A Popular History of Ancient Egypt

In this updated version of the classic of popular Egyptology, Barbara Mertz combines her doctorate in Egyptology at the famed Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago with a life-long enthusiasm for ancient Egypt. Her love of the subject is contagious and makes her the perfect guide to ancient Egypt for the student, the layman, and those who plan to visit or have visited the Nile Valley.

Ethan M. says: "One of the best history books on Audible"
    "A hard subject well done"
    Overall

Although the subject can be dry, Mertz does a very nice job of injecting humor, folklore, and her own interesting opinions. I'm on my way to Egypt and glad I listened to this first. The narrator is quite good.

In the remote wastelands of Greenland, an ancient artifact possessing catastrophic radioactive power is unearthed. But the astounding find puts the world at risk. Caught between two militant factions bent on wholesale slaughter, Juan Cabrillo and his network of spies, known as The Corporation, must fight to protect the stone - and prevent the outbreak of World War III.

Christopher says: "Great book... horrible narrator"
    "Not classic Cussler"
    Overall

The story wasn't bad, but the narration was all "he said', "the pilot said", "the driver said", etc. It seriously disrupted the story for me. Different voices would have helped a bunch.
Love Cussler, don't particularly love his ghost writers.

In the heart of the African jungle, Bruce Curry is the leader of a mercenary band, with the dubious support of three white officers. His mission is to relieve a mining town cut off by fighting and to retrieve a priceless consignment of diamonds. Ranged against his ill-disciplined unit are bandits, guerillas, and hostile tribes. But there is another, even deadlier enemy: one of his own men.

    Jake says: "Very enjoyable."
    "Okay"
    Overall

An easy read, but not up to standards that Smith sets in some of his later works.
