I don't write many reviews but I feel compelled to sing the praises of this author! A narrator can certainly make or break a good book and Kaleo Griffith in my opinion is one of the best. I've listened to all 5 books in the I-Team series and am terribly disappointed that there aren't any more. Pamela Clare incorporates intrigue, suspense, romance and depth to all her characters and story lines. All in this series were good but when I started listening to this last book, I didn't stop until it was over. I will be anxiously waiting for the next one! Sure hope this doesn't end the series!
I loved the way Gregg Hurwitz gradually layered the suspense throughout this book. I had absolutely NO CLUE as to who or why until the final chapters started unraveling. This book fulfilled all my expectations of a great thriller. And Scott Brick??? What more can I say? I'd read ANYTHING that encompasses him as the narrator. He just has that talent that brings the characters to life and makes you feel everything they feel. This book is definitely worth the credit.
FIRST...let me say that Scott Brick is one EXTREMELY talented narrator! I always love to see his name attached to a book because I know it has to be a 4-5 star rating. With his help, all the characters stand up straight from the pages of a book. This book captured my attention from the very first words and absolutely HELD my focus throughout...never wavering. I haven't listen to many of Gregg Hurwitz's books because the reviews don't measure up to those of other authors. But after listening to this book in particular, I would have to say that although some of his books miss the mark...this one is spot on! THUS...5 STARS FOR ME!!! I truly couldn't stop listening. Even though I have many books in my library that I haven't listened to yet, I just purchased "You're Next" by G. Hurwitz. With a 3018 rating of 4.1, I'm expecting a great listen! Not to mention Scott Brick is a bonus!
So the moral to this story...don't let lower ratings of other Gregg Hurwitz's books stop you from spending your credit on this one. IT'S A WINNER! IT'S DIFFERENT! IT TOUCHES THE HEART!
It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a Nora Roberts novel as much as I did this one. I never found myself distracted or bored throughout the listen. It was my first experience with January LaVoy as a narrator and I must say, she was very much a part of my 5-STAR rating. I will be looking up other works by her. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is a Nora Roberts fan! In my opinion, it's one of her best!
I've read or listen to every book in this series and sad to say they don't come often enough. I am always delighted when a new one is released. This one is no exception. I can't imagine an In Death story without Susan Ericksen being the narrator. I've grown to know each character over the years by their voice. A voice that Susan Ericksen does in depth and never seems to change or alter, even with all the other books and characters she narrates. Given a strong story line by J. D. Robb and add the extraordinary talents of Susan Ericksen, it can only be a SUPER SUCCESS! Thank you Nora Roberts! You're a winner!
I'm so delighted that Polly Lee was chosen to narrate this book. Such a nice break from Ashford MacNab. I sincerely hope Hannah Howell continues this series and I especially hope Polly Lee is chosen to narrate.
I enjoyed this book to the fullest. I even think Ashford MacNab is better than in the first three titles. Although I gave this one a 5 star, I still believe there are other narrators better than MacNab but none better than Hannah Howell.
My thoughts on the first book in this series was completely negative regarding the narrator. I decided to listen to the second in the series to see if I felt any different. Not much! The only thing I will give the narrator credit for are the childrens' voices. Others were screeching and very irritating while one of the main characters, Ashton, was SO MUNDANE! Really hard to listen to in my opinion. I'm so sorry to see that Ashford MacNab reads all the series with the exception of the last release. Maybe there's hope!
Just so that I'm clear...I do love the story and Hannah Howell.
I'm a true fan of Hannah Howell and her writing talent is outstanding. So WHY Ashford MacNab??? There are so many others that would make this story so much more enjoyable. I'm sitting on the edge of a decision to-buy OR not-to-buy! Because it's a continuation and I enjoyed the story so much, I guess I'll suffer through one more and maybe...just maybe it'll be better. Ashford MacNab doesn't have the ability to successfully distinguish the voices of the characters. Many times, I had to carefully listen to the subject of conversation to be sure who was talking. I certainly don't mean this to be disrespectful, but Ashford MacNab is at the very bottom of my choice of narrators list. Tis a pity...it's truly a GREAT story!
Bravo Brett Battles! It takes talent to write a series that never wavers from the best! I've enjoyed each and every book in this series! Scott Brick is officially at the top of my list of favorite narrators. I never grew tired of his voice. I would highly recommend this series to everyone. I sincerely hope Book 9 comes SOON!!!
I have listened to the entire KGI series with full enjoyment...until this one! Even the narration fell short! The storyline was shallow and heavily outweighed with sexual content. I have always loved the balance of story vs. sex that Maya Banks achieved in the KGI series. However, in this book...if you divided it into thirds, it would shake out as 1/3 storyline and 2/3 sex. The storyline didn't truly kick in until the last hour of the book. Adam Paul didn't deliver on the establishment of the characters either. He made the main male character seem like a high schooler with a major crush and absolutely NO self confidence at times. The main female character moved WAY too fast which made her unbelievable (considering she was suppose to be a virgin). Come on Maya!!!! You can do better than this! I think if you took the time to LISTEN...not read the entire book, you would quickly pull it from the series.
Wish I could recommend this to other readers, but just can't do it! I have in the past hooked my friends on this series and will continue to highly recommend all the other books in the series with the exception of this one. Not worth the credit!
