Clive Barker has made his mark on modern fiction by exposing all that is surreal and magical in the ordinary world - and exploring the profound and overwhelming terror that results. With its volatile mix of the fantastical and the contemporary, the everyday and the otherworldly, Weaveworld is an epic work of dark fantasy and horror - a tour de force from one of today's most forceful and imaginative artists.

Imajica is an epic beyond compare: vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in its resolution. At its heart lies the sensualist and master art forger Gentle, whose life unravels when he encounters Judith Odell, whose power to influence the destinies of men is vaster than she knows, and Pie "oh" pah, an alien assassin who comes from a hidden dimension.

I've read this twice, but no longer have the time so I've been dying for the audio book! I'm so excited. Simon Vance is a great narrator. Imajica is so dense and rich and epic. I can't wait to HEAR it.

Now we need Barkers' Books of The Art! Please please!

Unfortunately for Earth the aliens are far more advanced technologically, smarter than the average Earth human, and are just as aggressive. Maybe it doesn't help that they are all psychopaths. Bill is just training to be a combat marine in a war that Earth based humanity is losing.

A military science fiction short story, with hints Larson, Sheckley, and Heinlein. Not bad if you're looking for something episodic and short in the genre. I'll probably check out the next one because the aliens seem to have a cruel sense of humor, and I dig that.

I was given a free copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review.

I received a free copy of this audiobook for an honest review.

The story doesn't waste time getting started as Jim accepts a very secret invitation from the Hacks Club to a relaxing remote retreat. However something sinister lurks in the woods. Is it supernatural? Is everyone going to die? Has the horrible past followed one of the authors into these woods?

Great pacing and suspense. It had a "Jason" feel to it, IMO.

The Narration was acceptable. I had no problems knowing who was who and he did a good job of fading into the background while presenting the story.

Star Force is called to arms again! Outcast is a new beginning, the first book in a new spin-off series. Many peaceful years have passed since the Macro Wars ended. Most of those who fought against the heartless machines have aged - but not the ingenious artificial construct known as Marvin. His insatiable curiosity is as strong as ever, and he’s brought home fresh perils to humanity’s doorstep.

Cody Riggs is an adult now and off on his own adventures with Marvin. He's a chip off the old block and Marvin is just as funny and mischievous as ever. We see a couple of old characters and lots of new aliens and "rings"... It ain't easy living in the shadow of Kyle Riggs, so it's kind of a coming of age story for Cody. Luckily he met Marvin as a child and knows how to deal with him.

I'm so happy to have this spin off. I always wondered what Marvin would be getting up to once Kyle went back to the farm. Give me more please!

Plus he’s animated by a powerful alchemical substance and inhabited by a super-intelligent spirit more ancient than humanity itself. Good thing he’s on our side. More or less.

Well we find out EVERYTHING as Frank fights to save humanity from monsters whilst being framed and hunted himself. I won't say anymore. Fans of this series, rejoice if you love Franks. I have LOVED everything Correia has written! I'll definitely listen to this again! I already can't wait for the next one!

In a steel-and-lead-encased bunker 20 feet below the basement level of his house, a soldier waits for his final orders. On the surface, a plague ravages the planet, infecting over 90% of the populace. The bacterium burrows through the brain, destroying all signs of humanity and leaving behind little more than base, prehistoric instincts. The infected turn into hyper-aggressive predators, with an insatiable desire to kill and feed. Someday soon, the soldier will have to open the hatch to his bunker, and step out into this new wasteland, to complete his mission....

    Story

Mild spoilers but I couldn't finish.

I don't understand the high rating. There were continuity issues. Lee is not believable as a military officer, nor is the premise itself believable.

We meet Lee in his underground bunker waiting to hear from a government official. He doesn't, and 48hrs after not hearing he has to open a secret file that describes the situation that got him sent underground until further notice. It's a virus that has spread. If he's reading this then the government is gone/infected and he's supposed to emerge from his bunker in 30 days and restore order and help survivors.

LEE IS STUPID: First of all. Lee is all scared and anxious about not hearing from his contact. Then after he reads the file, he thinks it can't be that bad. He doesn't obey the order to wait 30 days to exit his bunker and goes out to explore only to get stabbed in the leg right on his front door step by a crazed infected teen aged girl. Stupidity alert!!! The first of many. Why would a highly trained officer get so antsy and not obey orders and then bumble immediately into danger.

INCONSISTENCY IN STORY: The next day he decides to check on his neighbors. Through a window he sees their teen age daughter laying on the couch. He takes of his mask to knock on the window to get her attention. Then the father appears, crazed and infected, and he has to shoot him several times and then he mentioned breathing harshly through his mask. HELLO! He took it off! Which was soooo stupid in the first place. He knows the virus is highly contagious.

I didn't buy that this one dude was supposed to come out of his bunker and restore order to the chaos. I didn't buy that his underground bunker wouldn't include cameras to monitor the house and the perimeter. There are evidently other guys like him in bunkers because he emails a guy to ask "is this real" before he leaves the bunker, but there'e no other coordination or anything. If him or other guys like him were our last hope at restoring order, then I assume they are screwed.

Christian Rummer is great as narrator though. As usual.

Amy is watching TV when the world is attacked by Them. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to survive - and even rescue "Baby" a toddler she finds in an abandoned supermarket. Then, after years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream, with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she'll lose Baby - and much more.

    3.5

I was riveted the entire way through. The books is kind of in 3 parts. The first part with the aliens arriving and Amy learning to survive by being quiet, not talking for years, the alien attacks and behavior. It was brilliant.

When they are rescued and brought to New Hope, I was so angry at the people in charged, at Amy's treatment there. My blood was on fire the entire time. I felt like Amy should have been a little more stealthy as she discovered what was really going on, as to not get caught. The ultimate reveals of the why behind everything (aliens, New Hope) left me disappointed. It's all been done before. Although this is done really well. Amy is a solid character, smart and strong and I definitely rooted for her. But I was so enraged at certain characters, at her treatment, that I don't know if I'll read the next one. It was a little over the top or I just don't like the way I felt so angry.

Julia Whelan is always a great narrator choice.

After reading just little of this book, I was going to write to B V Larson to see of he knew about this. After doing some research, I see they are friends and they have collaborated on book of separate short stories. I can tell they're friends. There's a lot of the same humor when it comes to some of the alien interactions.

However good some of the parts were, it felt sloppy overall. There are some characters introduced that fall by the way side, the battle scenes were not explained enough to picture anything. (Ex. "Attack") Well, attack what, who, where?. How many? What kind of weapons do the aliens have? Where are you in relation to them... Sigh.

Christian Rummel is fantastic as narrator though...He's one of my favs.
