I picked this up because I love the movies. I read somewhere that the movies takes the general idea of the books but the books are quite different from the movies. So out of curiosity I decided to give this a shot. If I were to describe this in one word - Fantastic! It is funny, extremely entertaining and hard to put down. I am not going to give you a synopses of the book as you probably know the general storyline, however if you are on the fence about this my advice to you is - stop thinking so damn hard and read it already! Its a short, fun, very funny, widely entertaining book that you have to be someone without a sense of humor not to enjoy. To top it all off the narration is amazing! So go on give it a shot!
As with all the books in the series, it took me forever to finish this and not because it was boring, I really enjoyed it. However there were parts where I was saying things like "oh c'mon, get on with it already." Apart from those few and far between instances the book was keeping me on the edge of my seat just like the others. The plot twists were amazing but not shocking like the ones in the past, maybe thats because I have learned not to get invested in any characters or assume that I know what will happen next hence the shock has been greatly reduced because the only thing I expect with George R.R. Martin is that nothing you think and expect will play out like you assume. Those that have read the series from start to finish will understand what I mean. If you haven't read the series and are skimming reviews to see if this is worth your while than look no further you have hit the jackpot. My only other issue with this was Roy Dotrice narration at certain points. Though overall he was exceptional as always in some cases he got confusing. Cersei started sounding more and more like Tyrion, as did the other characters of the Lannister family when in other books they each had they distinct way of talking. In other cases the character would go from sounding strong and confident to a complete weakling the next chapter even though the circumstance haven't changed much for the character. Besides those few quips I would recommend this series to anyone in a heartbeat.
I really enjoyed this installment in the series. I loved the added plot twists and all the intricate details that brought all of the elements of the story together.
Want a book that just makes you happy? A book that always puts a smile on your face every time you pick it up? Leaves you with the same feeling of "this is awesome" each and every time you read/listen to it? Want a book that is just absolutely, positively, beyond doubt delightful? Then look no further you have found it!
This is an interesting book, definitely worth a read through. It's a nice re-telling of age old fairy tale of Rumplestiltskin, from his point of view. The author made this story brand new without changing too much of the original story. I liked that! Wasn't too thrilled with the narration but is wasn't terrible. Would I read it again? Maybe not, at least not for a while. Would I read anything else from this author? Definitely! I may not have loved this book but I did like it so that in itself will make me pick up her next books. This is definitely worth a read.
I love Fishlegs! He is hilarious! As usual this book is another gem in the series and does not disappoint. It is funny and entertaining. Cressida Cowell is a genius and David Tennant is a pure joy to listen to. I don't think they could have picked a better narrator.
Now on to the next one!!
Roy Dotrice you are amazing! He made this story come to life for me. I partially read this and partially heard, and listening to it sometimes was so much better than reading it yourself. As usual it has taken me forever to get through this book, not because its boring or a drag. I unfortunately do not have the time I would like to dedicate to reading this quickly. Having said that this story keeps getting better and better. I love the intrigue, the uncertainty of not knowing who is good and bad, coz that keeps changing and the best part is as soon as you think you have something figured out, the proverbial ground gets yanked from under your feet and you are back at being left clueless. I am going to start on the Dance of Dragons asap, as I want to know what happens to Daenerys, Jon and especially Tyrion. In this book there are no chapters on these characters. This book concentrates on Cersei, Jamie, Brienne, Sansa, Sam and some other characters. This book is more focused on Kings Landing and the happenings of Westros. I wish I could tell you what happens, I am so happy for the time being with one of the characters situation. Lets just say that they reaped what they sowed, and I hope it stays that way. Just read it and you will know what I mean!
I have a 45 min commute to work everyday, and for my husband and I those 45 mins have been quite pleasant thanks to this book. We have spent that time laughing and engrossed in the book vs getting mad at the horrendous traffic we have to deal with everyday. Granted that this is a children's book but nowhere does it say adults can't enjoy it. This, just like the first, was funny and entertaining. I love the characters of Toothless, Fishlegs and Hiccup and it has been an absolute delight watching them stumble into being the heroes. I am looking forward to the time my son is old enough to read and understand this book and all the fun we will have reading it together. Cressida Cowell is a genius and David Tennant is just absolutely amazing!
Though this is a work of fiction there are aspects of this book that have given me quite a bit to think about. Definitely one of Dan Brown's better works. Angels and Demons still holds the top spot for me but this is a close second. Fast paced from the first page to the last it was an enjoyable read.
I can't help but compare this to Angels and Demons, which is my all time favorite Dan Brown book!! This was a good story overall but it lacked the punch of Angels and Demons. It was not as exciting and the end though leaving me with a lot to think about was not nearly as riveting as his other books! Either way though it's not a bad read, but Dan Brown could have done so much better!!
