I still enjoyed it. The mice are just adorable and I could see a spin-off there. But the main character is still great and I still could't guess how things would turn out. Thanks for being outside the box on your storyline and plot. I love that about this author and will definitely be waiting to buy another book.
I kind of like this story. I like Jane when she's not so dependent on other people. And she was in full fighting form this time . This story was wonderful and full of surprises. I'd recommend it for a good listen.
OK, I almost put this one back down after chapter one, but some little voice said grit your teeth it might get better. So I did and lo and behold, somewhere around chapter 3, it got a bit better. The ending was awesome. Glad I stuck it thru. Took me a while to figure out I was listening to three different story lines. Transitions between character plots could be better. And everyone need not have a Scottish accent-but this got better as time went on too.
The next installation needs to be a bit snappier. It made me laugh and it made me cry. Thumbs up. I recommend giving it a try. Just keep the coffee going for the first three chapters. It made me want to see what happens next. Don't wait too long to get it out there or we'll all forget because there were a lot of fine details that happened in Book 1.
There were parts I liked, but there were a lot of parts I didn't like. Girl versus the system I liked. Girl not being isolated from society I didn't like. I guess I just can't get into "steampunk", but I tried. I can't in good conscience recommend this book. I give it an "E" for effort. Try at your own risk.
Didn't see that one coming, but its a super ideal. Story was full of action and adventure. Just the way I like 'em. Even a little underlying romance. But the concept was the best, because I just hadn't seen or heard of this being done before. Kudos! Looking forward to the next one.
I wrote a review before one this one, but I am retracting it. As the story progressed, it became riveting. I couldn't hardly put it down. While at first I hated the narrator's voice, I found it more tolerable as the characters and storyline developed. I feel the story is original and is something that I would like to see more of. Kresley Cole is a great writer and its refreshing to see this type of twist to her writing style. The only question is, where on earth are the other parts to this trilogy????? When are they coming out????
I love how, the story spent time with a few more characters. I love Atticus, but its nice to know something about everyone else too. Luke Daniels always does a fabulous job of making the voices come to life. All I can say, is its was just as riveting as the one before it. And, I can't wait to see what will happen next. However, don't make it so long between books. I almost drifted off into a different series, which makes it really hard to pause and come back.
After reading several reviews, I tried this book. Without giving away any spoilers, it could have been great, but it just wasn't. It was a very slow moving, boring book from start to finish. The characters were fair, but never changed or matured thru the story. They were strictly 2D. The premise for the story was intriguing, but never really took off. I had high hopes this book would be new and different and exciting. Exciting never happened. I don't mind being immersed in another country's culture or customs, but please - make it something exciting. Not just a by line tagging thru the storyline.
Several times I went to delete it off my device. But stopped because I just kept thinking it'll get better in a minute. It didn't. It didn't throughout the whole book. It was the same slow paced scenario. After sticking it out to the end, I felt I had no ideal what the other reviewers saw when they wrote such glowing praise. But I say - SAVE your credit and pass on this one.
Larry Correia and Oliver Wyman might just be the best combination of author and narrator I've ever heard. This story is amazing! And, I've listened to the other books before this one too. But together the combination of voice variety, humor, and making the story line come alive surpasses anything I have heard up to now. And, I don't think its easy to do this at all, but it seems like Oliver really understands the ins and outs of all the characters and makes them come alive. I felt like I was right there in the story as I listened along. The quality Oliver gives to each characters voices is so good it's unreal. More like a movie than a book. Great stuff, can't put if down. Keep 'em coming! I've become a real fan. I would really recommend this book, but not for the young or the squeamish.
The narrator's reading style, Jim Marsters, makes these characters come alive. Wouldn't be the same with another reader. I would recommend a listen to this book as well.
Another great story about Harry. Once you pick it up, its hard to put down. I recommend it.
