In Total Recall, Sara Paretsky brings together several disparate plots in one gripping story. This powerfully suspenseful novel confronts the machinations of a vast and corrupt industry that trades on the victims of Nazi terrorism; the strange and dubious phenomenon of "recovered memory;" and a personal story that brings V. I. Warshawski into the long-buried past of her dearest friend and mentor, Dr. Lotty Herschel.

If you could sum up Total Recall in three words, what would they be?

slow at first then-- like all of the VI Warsharsky stories they turn to predictable yet solid stories built on the lives and friends of VI.

Stubbornness has landed private eye V.I. Warshawski in big trouble at her Chicago office. With her grand old Loop building set to be razed, she's become a hold-out tenant amid frayed wiring and scary, empty corridors. Then she finds a homeless woman with three kids in the basement, and before she can rescue them, they disappear. Worst of all, she's been implicated in a murder after the body of Deirdre Messenger, a prominent lawyer's wife, turns up sprawled across her desk.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love the VI Warshawski series but was very disappointed to see another narrator 5 books into the series. The previous narrator- Susan Erickson had done a great job with all the characters, Vic, Lottie, Mr. Contraeus. But Shannon Egemann did not tell the story---- she speed read it. There was very little variation between characters. I am disappointed. Once a narrator tells a story in a series, the listener get used to hearing the main characters voice as that person, the books and the story fall flat--when someone else like Shannon Egemann come in. I want my money back

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

no because the narrator was speed reading not telling a story, also whoever did the editing did a poor job. The end of a chapter ran right into the intro to the next.

What didn’t you like about Shannon Engemann’s performance?

See above comment--overall she stinks--She gets 0.25 of a star

    Any additional comments?

have Susan Erickson read the remainder of the VI Warshawski series--I want my money back

When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin. But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has nobody, and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own. To save his friends - and his own soul - Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any magic....

Would you listen to Ghost Story again? Why?

I realize there are issues in schedules ect-- but those of us that have read this series by listening (audible books!) changing the reader at this point was a poor decision - business money sold out to the dark side- I am disappointed with the author

What did you like best about this story?

The story is again great - but what if the actor that played Harry Potter had been changed at book 6 or 7 ?

What aspect of John Glover’s performance would you have changed?

He is a good reader but he did not have the right tenor--- too dark and the "wise-ass" Dresden remarks fell flat

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Too distracted by the reader issue

    Any additional comments?

If their are future books don't make this mistake
