  • Up from the Grave: Night Huntress, Book 7

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 41 mins)
    • By Jeaniene Frost
    • Narrated By Tavia Gilbert
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

There's always one more grave to dig. Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband, Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…. A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences.

Stacey says: "OMG--Can this series get any better? You Bet!"
    "Another hit!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Up from the Grave to be better than the print version?

They're both awesome but I have a long commute from work so the audio book works better for me. Plus, Tavia Gilbert is a great narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Up from the Grave?

I can't say too much because I don't want to spoil it for other readers/listeners. The most intense moment was Cat and Bones on the pier.

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

Love them all but Cat is my favorite.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I would have to if I didn't have to work:)

    Any additional comments?

These books are worth the credit or the money you will spend. Start with book 1 and work you're way through. You won't be disappointed.

  • Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Christine Amsden
    • Narrated By Melissa Reizian Frank

Cassie Scot is the ungifted daughter of powerful sorcerers, born between worlds but belonging to neither. At 21, all she wants is to find a place for herself, but earning a living as a private investigator in the shadow of her family's reputation isn't easy. When she is pulled into a paranormal investigation, and tempted by a powerful and handsome sorcerer, she will have to decide where she truly belongs. When sorcerers call the shots, what's a girl without powers to do? Get ready for a ripper of a murder mystery full of romance and intrigue, where magic potions bubble, passions spark and vampires are definitely not your friend.

    A. Sunmonu says: "excellent new series (hopefully!)"
    "Some I liked, some I didn't."
What made the experience of listening to Cassie Scot the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed this story. There were many interesting characters with a lot of potential for future interesting stories. Cassie is young but she isn't stupid like some heroines in other books I've listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Evan the best other than Cassie.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator's voice was much too deep and mature for a young lady. Her acting ability was poor at times and I found this distracting.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reactions to the book.

    Any additional comments?

I would purchase the second book in the series as long as there was a different narrator. I would not purchase it if they used the same person.

  • Twice Bitten: Chicagoland Vampires, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Chloe Neill
    • Narrated By Cynthia Holloway

Merit, Chicago's newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene - and to spy for the vamps while she's at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan's offering some steamy one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.

Karen says: "Another writer for my "paranormal favorites' list"
    "Hoped it would improve"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I had to force myself to finish this book because it became so boring. How many times do I have to listen about Merit and Ethan sparing? The story became too repetitive for me and I got bored. I like the interactions between Merit and her friend but there wasn't enough of their fun banter. Too much time was spent describing details that didn't bring anything to the story line. The more I listened, the weaker the plot became, the more predictable.

What could Chloe Neill have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Build better plots and quit spending so much time describing what everyone is wearing. I'm more interested in the personalities of the characters, what makes them tick and how Merit deals with them.

Which character – as performed by Cynthia Holloway – was your favorite?

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No. I might rent it.

    Any additional comments?

I won't be purchasing anymore of this series.
