Bo Mason, his wife, and his two boys live a transient life of poverty and despair. Drifting from town to town and from state to state, the violent, ruthless Bo seeks his fortune in the hotel business, in new farmland, and, eventually, in illegal rum-running throughout the treacherous back roads of the American Northwest.

I gave this 3 stars, although I never was able to listen to the book, unfortunately. I really disliked the narrator in the flat voice who spoke so fast it took away any depth of feeling that I like to feel when listening.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

    "Great Listen, Great Book"
    Overall

Really enjoyed listening to this book even though I had reservations at first. There were several reviews that remarked on not being sure about the book and the different narrators at first, then you just get sucked in. I found this to be very true, and really appreciated the different narrators voices. I really enjoyed the story, became very close with the characters and was hoping it would go on when it ended.

  • Light in August

An Oprah's Book Club Selection regarded as one of Faulkner's greatest and most accessible novels, Light in August is a timeless and riveting story of determination, tragedy, and hope. In Faulkner's iconic Yoknapatawpha County, race, sex, and religion collide around three memorable characters searching desperately for human connection and their own identities.

Light in August caught my attention and kept it until about 3/4 the way through then it just lost me. I found the story to be very interesting and enjoyed the characters but too much rambling on with the characters and their backgrounds that you start to lose interest in the story at hand. At one point I thought I missed the ending and another story started. I made it to the end, although I almost stopped listening about 3/4 through.
