Appealing Plot & Characters
The relationship of characters Harding & Wu. Really love Wu in the Dismas Harding series. The changing nature of their relationship grabs me. He is impossible to not love. She is a riot, yet deeper and the reader knows it. I like the other female in his life and the way they relate, the dynamic of the three - which is real, and I appreciate that "things & feelings" change with the characters, as happens in real life.
He does his job well & stays out of the way. His voices for two key female characters varies well and consistently - a weakness with a lot of narrators can be with the gender changes - the voices for them. Colacci does quite well. Causes no confusion.
I had fun with it because of the characters - smiles & laughs. The plot had heavy features that were serious but no crying. And the flow was excellent producing adrenaline. These are clever crime mysteries/thrillers - all three genres apply.
Will read more books in this series especially if Wu remains a key character. I do not think one need read all of these titles in order. It is not hard to catch on in any book. However, knowing the history of the characters from past reads, adds to the experience. I am eager to read more titles in the series and primarily because of the characters.
No but would recommend other titles in the series
It could do well
Skip this one if reading series
Characters, location. Good plots not too intricate. Worthwhile easy listening.
Am gradually reading all titles in the series. Not too intense, just easy decent reads.
She is a very good fit for the lead character and does an overall good job. Pleasing.
Murder in Alaskan Wilderness
Not the strongest ever crime mystery genre series but has me listening to title-after-title
Educational yet well-told. Excellent writing and narrating.
The last chapter should be a major wake up call in the midst of an Ebola outbreak we cannot vaccinate in time.
Where are we now? Why are we doing nothing? This book indicated a true concern a decade ago. Why are we not vaccinating again NOW? It is too late once there is an outbreak and small pox is too widely held, too easily a terrorist weapon.
The first quarter of the book when the writing was impressive and character development intriguing. The narrator was wonderful throughout the book!
Too many that have promise and fall apart.
Joe, until I could not stand him another minute. Lesson? Quit when I know it has all eroded. Stop wasting time to see these books through.
It COULD have been really great. Perhaps it needed to be "a wrap" by the end of the third quarter. It devolved into sloppy writing and what seemed like unedited/proofed rewriting, some characters just disappeared others diminished. The plot became tedious although initially was quite thrilling. It felt as if the author had a contract to write more pages! Tortuously, he did. Predictable end. "It could have been ..." Another "if only... " waste of time – this title.
Probably as it was very well done.
Everyone could take away important lessons from this very easy to take-in book. Authors master the power of story telling as an excellent non-fiction approach to producing an approachable product.
Not Quite There--OR--Well Worth Reading
I like him very much.
I enjoyed the first book in the series and look forward to reading the next one. Made me think and was simultaneously a relaxing read.
Character development impressive. Real science and moral issues. Pace easy not an intense thriller so perhaps billed inappropriately (over sold) by publisher?
No. I read the next title in this series first and learned absolutely nothing in this book that I did not learn in the one that follows it. The newer book is also a better read just in general. The characters have been better developed and I like the characters; they are the strength of this series. This book is a waste of time.
No, unless I was looking to find new friends.
There were scenes?
I hope not.
I do not know.
Not sure but I liked him.
Yes but in half the time. It had a decent idea, characters are good but just went on-and-on without any accretive contributions. Would have been twice as pleased if it had been half as long.
In the fiction genre it ranks fairly high. Not spellbinding but I was eager to get back to it! Will read more titles by authors— This was the first one for me.
I am not sure there was one single memorable moment. The dynamics of the flow were strong. The main character makes the book good throughout all of the moments. Kendra.
I think she does a very good job.
I suppose the most pertinent comment I could make is that I have just ordered another book in the series. I'm reading them backwards which was not per plan. But I enjoyed this book enough to want to read another by the authors and about and featuring these characters.
Although the total listening time was some approximate 45 minutes, it was absolutely not worth the time. And my time is worth more than three dollars for 45 minutes. I am a fan of being reminded of things that seem obvious but that somehow we have managed to forget in life. The tips mentioned in this book are so far beneath that level that I am somewhat at a loss for words.
I am not sure he could have done anything to make the book more enjoyable because if he thinks this book was worth anything I doubt I would ever enjoy another choice he made for authorship.
There are no scenes.
No that's my 45 seconds worth.
