Hilary Thomas knew terror as a child, but never anything like this. "He" is hunting her with a sick desire more terrifying than hatred could ever be. And he is in her house again. He is on the stairs, and he can’t be stopped. Hilary killed him once, and he keeps coming back. Again and again....

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I think people who enjoy flat characters, a lot of swearing, and graphic sex may enjoy this book.

Has Whispers turned you off from other books in this genre?

I still love Koontz, but I wonder if someone else really wrote this book. I do not usually find that Koontz has such graphic sex scenes or the F word used so much. I have found his characters more interesting as well.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of William Dufris?

William Dufris probably gets blamed because he could not redeem this story or writing with his narration.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was surprised and shocked over and over by the F word and how it was used. I was also surprised that I had to fast forward through the sex scenes and rape scenes.

    Any additional comments?

If I had not been such a Dean Koontz fan, I would never ever read his books again after this one. I did not even finish it. The writing was poor and so was the story. It was very boring and I did not like or care about any of the characters. If I had to listen to Fry say

There are millions of stories in the city - some magical, some tragic, others terror-filled or triumphant. Jonah Kirk’s story is all of those things as he draws listeners into his life in the city as a young boy, introducing his indomitable grandfather, also a "piano man"; his single mother, a struggling singer; and the heroes, villains, and everyday saints and sinners who make up the fabric of the metropolis in which they live - and who will change the course of Jonah’s life forever. Welcome to The City, a place of evergreen dreams where enchantment and malice entwine.

I thought this was one of the best books that Koontz has written. The story was creative; the main characters were likable. I also liked the time period of the late sixties. It was not predictable either.
