Welcome to the hilarious, strange, elegiac, outrageous world of David Sedaris. In Naked, Sedaris turns the current mania for the memoir on its proverbial ear, mining the exceedingly rich terrain of his life, his family, and his unique worldview, a sensibility at once take-no-prisoners sharp and deeply charitable.

I remember reading a few chapters out of the book and laughing out loud. This was not the case when I was listening to this audiobook. I'm not sure if it's the narration but I didnt laugh as much throughout the listening process.

Despite not laughing as much, the book was very enjoyable as Sedaris points out the many humorous side of what may seem like a tragic family. Families are quarky and odd. Sedaris has an artful way of bring insight and truths about life and family to the listener. It's a worthwhile listen.

Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

But make sure you bring an open and creative mind. Everything seems believable but nothing seems plausible.

Being a self-professed geek, I'm not sure what took me so long to get around this classic sci-fi adventure. I LOVED this story! Douglas Adams is a genious who concocts a brilliantly goofy scifi tale.

The story is about two men, the first an alien who travels through the universe to write articles for the Hitchhiker's Guide and the second an earthling who gets whisked away on this journey. The fun is seeing how these very different personalities deal with seemingly random, coincidental scenarios.

Douglas Adam weaves a tale of silly events, connecting together unlikely things to bring to the reader a very fanciful and enjoyable story. I'm looking forward to the second book!

Pi Patel has been raised in a zoo in India. When his father decides to move the family to Canada and sell the animals to American zoos, everyone boards a Japanese cargo ship. The ship sinks, and 16-year-old Pi finds himself alone on a lifeboat with a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra with a broken leg, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon it's just Pi, the tiger, and the vast Pacific Ocean - for 227 days. Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle.

    "A Worthwhile Listen"
    Overall

This was one of my first audiobooks and it was definitely a treat. Most of the reviews here have been spot on. There were points in the book where I kept wondering to myself where the heck Martel is going. But as you work through the details, you're slowly drawn into the book and a magical bond is formed between you and the main character. The grotesque thing that disgusted you a chapter earlier all of a sudden hits close to home as you ponder what would you do if you're in the same boat (pun unintended). The book draws out many emotions and it's an in-your-face look at human nature.

Despite some of the very long and grotesque details, the book is a worthwhile listen. It comes to a chilling climax and a wonderful ending. Well written, well narrated and highly recommended.
