Deliciously delightful deceit.
Vieve. The child is truly an evil genius of the highest caliber and everyone has to love an evil genius. Also, Steam. Propelled. Roller. Skates. That is all.
I do not believe I can name just a single character. Moira Quirk is absolutely brilliant. She breaths life into the characters and the world. Listening to this series would not be the same without her.
I laughed out loud at several parts and had more than one moment of concern for the characters throughout. The 'fall' was one of the better scenes in the book. I will not spoil it for all by pontificating further.
If you are reading this then you should be using your credit to purchase this and the previous books immediately. This is one of the best written and performed books on audible. It is a rare mixture of adventure, comedy, supernatural, and steampunk executed with a masters stroke. Each consecutive book from Miss Carriger gets better and better. I guarantee, gentle reader, that you will not be disappointed.
Great Twisting Genre-breaking
The Grav Cycle
The Elevator shaft.
The world starts and Ends with a Calamity
This is a great story. Now I'm not going to say that I didn't "see through" the "mysteries" because they are somewhat contrived but this is just one really great take on supers. I mean how bad would things be if supers were all just super villains and everyone else got the shaft. That is what this book is, a completely different view. I am huge fan of the superhero genre and at first I was skeptical but this blew me away. I picked this up mainly because of the authors credibility and let me just say, he did not disappoint. Can't wait for the next one!
I already have to multiple people. This is a great listen with spectacular action and interesting takes on classic characters.
I like the way it has 'Highlander-like" flashbacks to help build the characters.
Great vocalizations for the characters and he manages to keep all of them straight never missing a beat.
What if you forgot the last 1600 years of being a thief, a spy, an assassin, and a sorcerer? Who could you trust?
I picked up this series on a whim while it was on sale and wow, it is one of my new favorites. If you like contemporary fantasy and high action this has it in spades. It is Dresden Files meets Highlander in an all out Spartacus romp.
Amazing Airship Magic
I think the main thing was the action and the characters. Also the twist on magic is cool.
Great characterization. I loved him as Balki and I love it when he reads a book.
The very end. Jake and Taru. The warriors honor they display is always moving.
To anyone who enjoys a good pulp read this is your series. I highly recommend it. It has great Heroes and Heroines, great characters, and a ton of action. The writer takes a few twists but nothing overly complex. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and the narration. If you are a contemporary fantasy fan, pick this one up.
I remember reading these books when I was a teenager. It was a gritty mix of supernatural action and organized crime from the 20s. I loved them so much and then, they just stopped at book 6. A few days ago I was trolling for new books and saw this and I literally yelped in joy! I immediately ordered up enough credits to purchase all of the books through 12 and set to listening. So what did I love best about the book? PN Elrod's take on the 20s and vampires has always been the best thing for me. The fact that I have been waiting for 25 years for this, just icing on the cake and worth the wait!
So many things to choose from, gangsters, tommy guns, dirty money, convoluted plots, and yes, vampires.
He really brings the cadence of the speech for the time. When I listen to him I feel like I am listening to someone from the 1920's telling me a story.
No laughing or crying, but I sure gave a few fist pumps when Jack saved Shoe's butt.
PN Elrod, if you are out there...Thanks for bringing back Jack!!!
I would put it in the 60s of the thousand or so I have listened to.
Cormac is and always will be my favorite.
As not to spoil, I will just say the part when the woman is standing over Kitty's shoulder.
I love the Kitty series. This was a good story that moved the overall arc along. In the end my only real complaint is that I wish it would have been longer. It was just way too short and I think it 'felt' more so because it was all in the same location. Pretty much that is what made it miss the five start rating. Of course Ms. Gavin is magnificent as always.
I do not think I can rank it in terms of other books because it stands so far apart with its unique humor and setting.
The scene where the Finishing School is first viewed is likely the most memorable simply because of the wonderful description.
I love the Maccon's so I have to say Lady Maccon (not Alexia mind you) was my favorite.
Yes. I listened to it for one entire day all at once.
Gail Carriger and Moira Quirk are a match made in Steampunk heaven. I cannot describe adequately in word how much I love all of these books. I long for the next in the series.
Yes. It is a good story with a solid Heroine. This book doesn't go down the path the smut novel motif and keeps to the strong independent powerful woman. Not all guys like a girl that can kick their ass but I for one do.
Algaliarept. The depth of his character keeps expanding.
Ms. Gavin is a marvelous reader! She is able to breath life into the characters and gives each of them a unique quality. I have actually bought other books I did not know just because she is the reader!
When they tore that arrogant putz apart. I was so ready for it.
Great series of books here. I highly recommend the read. My one complaint is that the main character is always getting out of trouble with more luck than skill and she is suppose to be highly skilled. I would really like to see her just tear down the house sometime.
The fact that no character was sacred. In war there is no guarantee of safety and that really came across which in turn kept you guessing until the end.
There are so many it is hard to pick just one. I think Thom Merrilin absently throwing a knife into the back of one of the black ajah and then stuffing her body into a crevas was definitely one of my favorites.
For Mr. Kramer it was definitely Perrin. For Ms. Reading it has to be Egwene.
Yes, though a forty hour listen in one sitting is unreasonable.
Even as I write this I am getting choked up thinking about this book, These characters became like old friends over the series and not all survive. On top of that the loss of a Master Storycrafter like Robert Jordan hits you hard as you read this. I loved this world, I loved these characters, and I loved this book. Hopefully there is truly no beginning or ending to the wheel of time because this is one reader who could do with a few more stories.
Marsters is back hell yeah!
Molly, because she is always awesome.
When Harry was at the Winter Ball and killed the Nobles. Hands down, so awesome
Butcher is a genius story teller! With Marsters readin/acting it is a match made in heaven. I cannot recommend this series enough!
