  • Bleak House

    • UNABRIDGED (33 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Charles Dickens
    • Narrated By Simon Vance
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

First published in monthly parts from March 1852 to September 1853, this novel follows the fortunes of three pedestrian characters; Esther Summerson, Ada Clare, and Richard Carstone. The story they tell embondies Dickens' merciless indictment of the Court of Chancery and its bungling, morally corrupt handling of the endless case of Jarndyce v. Jarndyce, giving the novel its scope and meaning.

UU Ma says: "30 hours was too short for me"
    "Too Long!!"

The book is just way too long for me and the story was way too slow. There were too many characters that did not have anything to do with the story. I found the whole listening experience very boring. sorry!

  • Her Fearful Symmetry: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Audrey Niffenegger
    • Narrated By Bianca Amato
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Elspeth Noblin dies of cancer, she leaves her London apartment to her twin nieces, Julia and Valentina. These two American girls never met their English aunt; they only knew that their mother, too, was a twin, and Elspeth her sister. Julia and Valentina are semi-normal American teenagers - with seemingly little interest in college, finding jobs, or anything outside their cozy home in the suburbs of Chicago, and with an abnormally intense attachment to one another.

Shelli Bell says: "What a waste"
"Liked it but could not give it 5 stars!"

To start out with I was thrilled that my wait was over for Audrey Niffenegger's next book. I really enjoyed "Time Traveler's Wife" and loved Audrey's N. writing style. I was not disappointed in this book either and the way she paints a story with words simply amazes me.

I listened to an interview with Audrey N. before the release and knew the book was a ghost story so I expected a somewhat supernatural storyline.

After listening to the book I understand that not everyone will be drawn to this story like the "Time Traveler's Wife", but keep in mind this is a whole different kind of story.

I thought the story was good, the characters believable, and the narration by Bianca Amato 5 stars, but what disappointed me and kept me from giving it 5 stars is the last few chapters of the book felt rushed and the ending was not developed like it could have been.

I would reccomend this book if you like a supernatural twist in your reading. If you are expecting something similar to "Time Traveler's Wife" I would look else where!

  • The Old Man and the Sea

    • UNABRIDGED (2 hrs and 30 mins)
    • By Ernest Hemingway
    • Narrated By Donald Sutherland
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

    Dave says: "Truly a Classic"
    "Loved it!"

One of the best books I have listened to in a while. Hemingway's words painted a picture in my mind so vivid that I could smell the salt air and feel the boat rocking against the waves as he battled the big fish. Of course the story goes deeper than just battling the big fish and I will leave the rest of the details for you to discover on your own. This is a classic and the narration by Donald Sutherland is just another plus!!

  • Bag of Bones

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By Stephen King

Even four years after the sudden death of his wife, best selling novelist Mike Noonan can't stop grieving, nor can he return to his writing. He moves into his isolated house by the lake, which becomes the site of ghostly visitations, ever-escalating nightmares, and the sudden recovery of his writing ability. What are the forces that have been unleashed here - and what do they want of Mike Noonan?

Amazon Customer says: "My Favorite King Novel"
    "Classic Stephen King"

I am a fan of Stephen King and this book did not disappoint! It kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how the story would unfold. I always enjoy a book that keeps me guessing and "Bag of Bones" did just that. I also thought that Stephen did a great job on the narration! Classic Stephen King!

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: The Millennium Trilogy, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Stieg Larsson
    • Narrated By Simon Vance
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Pamela Murphy says: "COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN"
    "Fantastic Listen"

Wow!! I was blown away by this book and I am hooked on this series of mysteries. I was astonished that Mr. Larsson passed away because I wanted to read more of his writings. "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest" are the next books in the series that were evidently completed before he passed away. I just could not stop listening and found myself sitting in my car in my garage not wanting to turn this audio off. I highly recommend this book and it is well worth the 1 credit I paid! Bravo Mr. Larsson!!!

  • The Last Song

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By Nicholas Sparks
    • Narrated By Pepper Binkley
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Seventeen year old Veronica "Ronnie" Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alientated from her parents, especially her father...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him.

    Brittina says: "Um... WOW!"
    "A Good listen"

As expected another great story by Sparks. This story grabbed my attention from the start and kept me interested all the way to the end. I would recommend this book to everyone.
