The deep undercurrents of life in a small Southern town burst to the surface in this suspenseful tale of passion and prophecy. Sixteen-year-old Mattie comes to Jexville as a mail-order bride, and finds a quiet, deeply religious community so cautious that even dancing is frowned upon. Soon Mattie finds herself playing a part in a long-awaited, stunningly executed plan of revenge.

I was looking forward to this since it was supposed to be LIKE Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl. It's not. You know how Gone Girl was great to read/listen to the second time to get how awesomely screwed up those unreliable narrators are? Well, that moment of thinking "wow!.. COOOOOOooL.!" never comes with this book, it fizzles out like a lame firecracker. Don't waste the credit.

Ok, I tried. Over twelve hours invested and I'm thinking if I still don't like ANY of the characters and I'm still bored with the story, this one is beyond a dud. The narration is decent, which often times can save a mediocre story line, but noooo amount of narrators skills can make it work. Save the credit for a good one!

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie....

This story is (finally!) not another Mylan Bolitar run on sentence, but stands alone in its characters and theme. Jake Fisher is a man pining for a love lost six years prior, but he has kept his promise to leave Natalie and her new husband alone. When Jake comes across the obituary of the husband, he is compelled to contact Natalie and find out why the relationship he valued came to an abrupt end.

An intriguing thriller and heartfelt story of longing and dedication, you won't be disappointed by this book!

In this juicy first novel by Elin Hilderbrand, a series of personal dramas are played out during one summer at a Nantucket Beach Club. It's about the love of summer, summer love, and the special feelings we all have for that special summer place - in this case, a hotel and an island. An engrossing, sexy novel that will sweep you away to the beach any time of the year.

This is the first of Hilderbrand's novels and it's easy to see why she became loved by many. Her books take place on the small island of Nantucket but each novel has its own plot, not an alteration of the same old story as is the case with some best-selling authors.

This story is based in a successful family-owned hotel/beach club and the dynamics of family, employees and guests are fun and intriguing. There are many characters in the story, each unique enough in their own relationships with one another to show different facets of their personalities. Very good book, glad I came across it!

Fly Away is the story of three women who have lost their way and need each other - plus a miracle - to transform their lives. An emotionally-complex, heart-wrenching novel about love, family, motherhood, loss, and redemption, Fly Away reminds us that where there is life, there is hope and where there is love, there is forgiveness. Told with her trademark visceral storytelling and illuminating prose, Kristin Hannah reveals why she is one of the most beloved writers of our day.

The story picks up four years from where Firefly Lane ended, with more depth and insight into the characters and the reasons they are who they've become. Tully (and even Kate) are still present but it also branches into those who were minor players in the last novel, so it keeps the listener engaged.

For a sequel, it has the strength of its own story line, similar to Jennifer Weiners "Certain Girls" was to "Good in Bed".
This book is worth a credit, one of Kristin Hannah's best!

Now, during their most challenging year yet, dutiful, proud, and talented Clarice must struggle to keep up appearances as she deals with her husband’s humiliating infidelities. My newest favorite book! This is the story of a group of friends who met as children in the racially turbulent era of the 60's and jumps to present day which helps us KNOW these characters and love them! The focus is on the friendship within the changing times and it's easy to see that despite the world around them, their individual lives are the real story.

It is the perfect blend of (yet all its own story) The Help and Waiting to Exhale and will make you laugh, cry, and feel the outrage and frustrations of this era. This book WILL be loved by many!

Jodi Picoult's poignant number one New York Times best-selling novels about family and love tackle hot-button issues head on. In The Storyteller, Sage Singer befriends Josef Weber, a beloved Little League coach and retired teacher. But then Josef asks Sage for a favor she never could have imagined - to kill him. After Josef reveals the heinous act he committed, Sage feels he may deserve that fate. But would his death be murder or justice?

I have LOVED most of Picoult's books (Nineteen Minutes, Sister's Keeper, Salem Falls are favorites) but Lone Wolf was a disappointment and I hoped it wasn't the dreaded Big Author Slide, but alas it appears to be the case.

Normally, it's fun to have all of the seemingly unrelated facets and characters of a story merge together but this was so disjointed and all over the place (that vampire/werewolf attempt was bizarre) that I found myself suddenly thinking Wait....Whaaat.?

The book seems a bit thrown together, the only part that seemed to be well researched and well written was the Holocaust portion with the remainder of the book as fluff and filler. Bummer.

It was a fairy tale come true when Mark Dorn - handsome pilot, widower, tragic father of three - chose Jiselle to be his wife. The other flight attendants were jealous: She could quit now, leaving behind the million daily irritations of the job. (Since the outbreak of the Phoenix flu, passengers had become even more difficult and nervous, and a life of constant travel had grown harder.) She could move into Mark Dorn's precious log cabin and help him raise his three beautiful children. But fairy tales aren't like marriage.

Having listened to this audiobook at least five times, I feel I have a pretty solid viewpoint on it. I LOVE this book. It isn't a linear time line, which usually confuses the listener, but for some reason really works in the story. I enjoy post-apocalyptic thrillers as they are usually large scale, fantastic reads (LONG) that involve a wide cast of characters (i.e: The Passage, Swan Song) so finding that I found a under-ten-hour audiobook so intriguing says a lot about the story and the narrator.
This is a small cast of characters with whom you will connect with and care about, wanting the very best for them but not wanting the book to end too soon. It truly will move the reader to another place and make it sad to leave that place. Enjoy!
