Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

I listened to the Theatrical Production of Dune. Although the production itself was very well done, the producers left out large chunks of the book, especially parts leading up to the final battle.

For that reason, I gave it a rating of 3. I was disappointed that so much of the story was missing, therby diluting one of the great Science Fiction novels of all time.

Since their publication more than two decades ago, the initial six books in The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant series have sold more than six million copies and have been published in 10 countries around the world. Now, starting with The Runes of the Earth, Stephen R. Donaldson returns with a quartet of new Covenant novels that are certain to satisfy his millions of fans, and attract countless new followers.

Although this is obviously a popular book, I did not find it so at all. After plodding through about 4 hours of repetitious doggrel and (I thought) poorly done hallucinations, I abandoned the book entirely.

In the year 1311, in the highest tower of Cloud of Sparrows Castle, a beautiful woman watches as enemies gather below. As she calmly awaits her fate, she begins to write the secret history of the Okumichi clan...of the gift of prophecy they share and the extraordinary destiny that awaits them.

I was truly disappointed in this book. Plot development meandered all over the place and I nearly fell asleep listening to it on several occassions. I was actually glad when it was over.

Master spies Seregil and Alec are no strangers to peril. Their assignments, night running for wizards and nobles, have led them into many deadly situations. But sometimes the greatest danger can lurk beneath a traitor's moon.

I was not overly impressed with plot development through the first half of the book. To that point, the author seemed to spend too much time and IMO got bogged down in the details. In the second half, it caught fire especially with the battle scenes and picked up. I think this is a very average fantasy book.
