I liked it all, the characters, the Attitude, the "in your face" defiance of religious Norms! Pushing the limits, who am I kidding,? Smashing the limits, making new limits & smashing them as well! When a Man becomes the Devil then tricks God into taking over his duties as Lucifer (Hells Paper pushing Mayor of sorts) while he goes back to being a man (somewhat) killing angels, deals with Vampires, pissing off Ghosts, & Demons & ghouls & old Gods... Oh My..! What more could a guy ask for out of one book??
Everything! This story could go on and on & never get boring!
I don't do spoilers!
Laughed a few times out loud.. But crying.?! Nah!
If you listened to the other Sand Man Slim books Im sure you don't need to read a review to know your buying this one too! You won't be disappointed!
All the StarForce books.
like Father Like Son
If you are even looking to purchase the 10th book then there's nothing I can tell you that you don't already know! I look forward to the next 10 books from this generation & then maybe 10 from adventures of grandson of Kyle Riggs hahaha
Found myself waiting for this horrible GORE Fest to begin after reading the Reviews I was excited for some Shock & Aww and ended up waiting, & waiting, & waiting... Then waited some more.. Then found myself at the end.?! The Sissy's writing these reviews must need to leave the Light on to read Cat In The Hat.. Cause Eating Green Eggs n Ham Is Bout as Macabre as it gets.. And I'm So Scared of Talking Cats.. Seriously? I could understand maybe one review but multiple reviews paint this book as something that shouldn't be read on a full stomach when honestly I found it to be Light Horror if anything.. Gore?! Not at all.. Maybe I'm numb to things, maybe being a Psychopath causes me to overlook certain chapters of Gore leaking bodily fluids from the pages but I doubt it. Instead I believe one of three things is going on here.. 1: over embellishing the reviews by "Professional Reviewers" in attempt to sell more books 2: Someone using multiple accounts or some Group of someone's attempting to hurt sales of this book or lastly 3: This book somehow was picked as the book of the month at the Sissy-LaLa book club. Don't judge by reviews, give this one a chance! I honestly think the story only ranked 3 stars because I was so worked up for something that never happened because of misleading reviews so Please judge for yourself!
I found it to be fairly unique in its own way considering how overdone the whole Infectious disease scene is these days.
As always I prefer audio books because a reader can (doesn't always or is incapable of ) adding personality to a story, voices, emotions such as Fear, anger, insanity.. Building up anticipation, pulling you up the hill before pushing you down.. Like a Coaster ride.. It's impossible to do this while reading to yourself unless you know what happens next in which case what fun is that?!
To avoid Spoilers let's just say "The Crazy one" you'll know who that is by end of story.. If take him out to dinner with me.. Why?? Isn't it obvious?? Oh yeah you haven't read it yet . Well I'd take him with be so he could Cut My Meat.. hahaha drum beat.. Bah Dah Dah!!
Read reviews sure, but don't ever pick a book or Not pick a book due to reviews. You have to keep in mind that these our someone else's opinion! Many times that's not even try in a world where writers, editors, readers, cousins & brothers of Writer all have accounts & all write reviews not to mention friends & professional reviewers who could get paid maybe? Free gifts, credits?? Who knows.. Even weirdo stalkers that didn't get their book signed one day after waiting on line for a hour & knows that writer saw me waiting and left early for lunch on purpose then after a hour & 1/2 the store owner informed us he was unable to return.. That's enough to make a crazy person CRAZier and start writing bad reviews to get even.. That'll Show him!! Bad Book Bad Book.. Don't buy it.. In sorry, I'll brb.. Ok had to take my meds.. Where was I?! Oh Yes.. Speaking of writers Fan Clubs, let's face it when your talking about this Genre of books, well it attracts all sorts of personalities.. And let's just say I wouldn't be going on a BioOutbreak/Horror Story Fan Club Cruise to the Caribbean even if it was free.. I would imagine the amount of Psych Meds onboard could probably Mellow out the Populations of most smaller Countries.. For a few months easily.. And the chances of something Unexplained happening might be decent.. Hey that might make a good story?? Better give me credit for Idea or I'll write a bad review!! Hahaha enjoy the book, make up your own mind,! Write fairly, be honest as you can, or be like me write insanely crazy stuff, but write something.. Lets not let the only reviews be those which are bought & paid for & those with Axes to grind.. Takes a few minutes to show appreciation for a story the writer probably spent in some cases 8 to 10 long sleepless Hours writing..so take 8/10 minutes and tell them what you thought of it!! P.S. Spoiler Alert.. How many people don't read it because it says Spoiler Alert?? Come on people No SPOILERS!! It's a review not a narration.. Nobody wants the story ruined or explained in details that Spoil the story?? If you can't write a review without Spoilers Then maybe have one of your Cats write up something of interest as I'm sure the Intellectual differences between the two of you is staggering.. Had to be said.. Thanks for reading my Crazyness and I hope to bore you again sometime with my senseless, meaningless JibberJabber while trying to review a book.. If you read this far you deserve a cookie because I know I didn't read this far and I wrote it.. Good Day Mate.. That's Australian for Goodbye! No I'm not Australian!
Everything about it! The story was great, the characters well thought out & believable! Felt myself loving & hating them! Rooting for and against them! The Narrator did a really good job with the voices & accents to give you a feel for the Lingo & the differences in speech between the Colors. This book was one of the best I've read in a long time, I'd place it up there with the Hunger games, The Ender series & I wouldn't be surprised to see this made into a movie if it's not already underway! I know if be seeing it on opening day! Give this book a shot, I promise it won't dissapoint!
Of course I have to say Reaper, but he's not alone! Pax, the Goblin, the Mustang all won my heart, I really Liked what Pax added to the story!
As I mentioned, the voices, being able to differentiate between the Colors by accent. Even down to the Snooty Snobbish tones he would attach to certain characters at certain times really allowed the listener to believe in this Color coded society Pierce Brown has created.
There were a few, without giving much away, the original thing with Reapers wife which happens before he becomes Reaper. Then the Passage & the consequences of the passage & of course what happens between the Jackal & Pax at Jupiter's Stronghold is sad.
This human society that pierce Brown has created is fictional of course but sadly I can easily believe every bit of it. It portrays a possible future of humanity where corruption & greed run everything. Those who don't conform are eliminated.. Wait did I say this is a fictional book?! Oh yeah people have color codes & it takes place on other planets..let's face it We already live in a society very similar to this except people are still hiding their true faces behind their masks but have no doubts their are Golds who see us all as nothing more then Reds!
Give this book a shot it's a good one! I'm going to next part ASAP!
I've listened to Domain of the dead and Remains of the dead! They were both decent stories with decent reading but this one I found difficult to listen to. I only made it through a few chapters before frustration made me give up. It's hard to say exactly what the problem is but if I had to choose I'd say poor reading ruined a decent story! There was no Feeling in the reading, almost as if the reader recorded himself reading story for the first time. Very Bland reading is the best way to describe it, no feeling, no attempt to express the characters emotions. Example: The readers tone of voice while read the words "Get away from him, it's not him anymore look at him he's dead!" while speaking to the mother of a 8year old boy turned zombie which they have seen for the first time was read with exact same emotion & tone of voice as when the character said " I'm going to the cafeteria for a sandwich does anyone want anything?" Maybe I've been spoiled by more articulate readers but I expect to be taken on a adventure when listening to these books, a reader raising his voice when a character is screaming at the top of his lungs while having his intestines pulled from his belly and munched on in front of his own face it's hard to hear the reader calmly speaking "Get him off me Yawwwnnn, somebody ladidahh anybody??! No emotion, no expressing what the writer is trying to make the reader feel.. This is very hard to explain in writing but I hope I was able to do so. Don't waste your credit instead try one of Ian McKinnons other books also read by Karl Miller (Surprised me to see the same reader because I don't remember other two books being read so Blandly) I actually hope to see this book read by someone else or rerelease with more emotion because I believe maybe it could be a decent book.
Doesn't come close!
Stefan Rudnicki, Luke Daniels, James Masters, Christian Rummel honestly the way this was read I'd probably of done a better job reading it!
Anger, felt as if this was rushed
Disappointed because I know both writer and reader have done better works!
Any chance of having this book redone?
Great Start! Can't wait to get more!
The trials and tribulations the main character Faces.
Despite his loses, his personal feelings & whatever urges he may be feeling.. He decides to start down a certain path although he knows that there's no possibility that the end of said rode is far from guaranteed except the knowledge that nothing he personally has lost will be returned to him. He moves forward, driven by unseen forces, things that make a Man.. A Man! I look forward to seeing where this man will end up landing.!
Unsure but I can say this book had me excited from start to finish of this series of books I couldn't stop, always in the edge of my seat, always looking forward to listening time, rooting for my characters & worrying how things will play out.
Seek out a Movie deal! If done correctly.. Allowing no external interference from "Tge Experts" this could be the StarWars of the new millennium if your given the freedoms to create the visual version of the world I'm sure is clear and crisp in your imagination.. I could see this becoming a icon if done right, you'll no doubt need to fight to stay loyal to your story but ask George Lucas what it feels like to have created such a complex universe for his dream to exist?! I'm sure he'll admit how many people wanted to change his story.. "Had great ideas", "Knows what the people want" etc.. Personally I'd rather stand strong behind my work & fail, then sell out to succeed!
Wouldn't suggest you start with this book, after a few chapters I realized this is a story that is well under way and starting here would be like walking into a movie during the last 45 min. And trying to understand what's going on. Sounds like a good story tho!
I wish it was clear where this story actually begins!
Yes!! I'd see the main character react as any normal human being would in similar situations. He had to much restraint for me to be able to believe him to be real! The Pope wouldn't have had such self control as this man showed repeatedly throughout this story! To unbelievable.! As well as many characters throughout doing things that just wouldn't happen in real life.! Sorry not anyone I know..just a for instance: husband goes to check on neighbors.. Wife is supposed to be playing lookout for him. he gets her on walkie talkie & reports the neighbors were All brutally murdered, he's going to the other neighbors house to check on them although he knows they to are dead but he has to be sure! Keep in mind the murders are known to be holding up in a house two doors down.. Upon finding the second family murdered he is leaving the house & runs right into one of the murderers & avoids confrontation & gets home. When he gets home he wonders why his wife didnt warm him the guy was outside the house she apologized stating she went to get another cup of coffee.. Ok your husband is outside, your watching his back, there's a house full of squatting murderers who you've just found out killed your neighbors & you leave your post, leave your husband hanging out there I watched to grab cup of coffee??!? That would constitute a B!/?@ Slap in most households.. Thanks Hun I guess she Was making sure the life insurance policy was paid up.!! Hahaha
Wouldn't know as I've not read the printed version.
Honestly couldn't compare it to any other book for it is unique compared to most books I've read. Outside of books I might say its comparable slightly to the TrueBlood TV series due only to character association. Basically meaning that any mythical creature Vamps, wolves, gods, Druids, witches, demons etc are all alive & well & possibly living right next door to you!
Personal opinion would be Luke Daniels brings life & personality to the characters with his Voices & the way he narrates the story. The Iron Druid is a great idea a well thought out & written series! With that said I believe that Luke Daniels brings a certain something to every book he narrates, his reading style & voice over for Characters allows the listener to easily identify who's speaking, what's going on & makes immersion into the world of the Iron Druid all that much easier.! My applause to Kevin Hearne on a masterpiece of a series as well as a great choice of narrator by choosing Luke Daniels to breathe Life into Mr. Atticus O'Sullivan & The Trusty wise cracking WolfDog By the name of Oberon. I'm sure narrators like artists fetch varied commissions for their work. One one end you may have Myself who would be the equivelant of a child's finger painting, having hard time giving the finished product away all the way up to Luke Daniels being the equivelant of a Picasso or Micheal Angelo capable of a Masterpiece.! I appreciate Hearnes Love of his series & his insistence on having it one of the Best in the Buisness narrate it into a reality.! Bravo!
No spoilers, this series has moved me in many ways as I've finished book 6 prior to writing this, its been a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Happiness, sadness, fear, anticipation, confusion, anger, frustration so on & so on.! The point being this: The pairing Of Hearnes story telling abilities with Daniels Narration Skills allows, NO leaves you helpless to not become emotionally involved with these Charactors, rooting for your favorites & against those you've villianized.! I find myself upset there isn't another book to move onto.!
Said it before & Ill say it once more risking seeming like I have a "Man Crush" or something.! That isn't the case at all...! Hahaha its more that Ive been listening to audio books nonstop since finding Audible some 2 years or so ago. During which time Ive gone through possible close to 400 books. Some have been good, some have been ok.. Some have been bad & then some Horrible. I've heard great stories Butchered by cheap, half effort editing & Narration? then Mediocre stories made much better with Top Notch narration.! Then every once and a while I find the perfect combo of Story writer & Narrator which together creates "The Perfect Storm" & Like Peanut Butter & Jelly when they get together you end up with something Classic.! Something that will never get old no matter how much you have of it.! Its Satisfying & you want more & more, can't get enough.! Thanks to both Hearne & Daniels for a superb job throughout this entire series!
