This was pretty good light read. I wish the entire series was on Audible. I gave it 4 and not 5 stars because while it is entertaining I figured out the killer before it was revealed. I gave it 4 stars because I liked the characters and the flow of the story. I will buy the next few books that are available on Audible.
Another 4 stars. This is a light and quick read. The characters lovable and realistic. If you are looking for a series with a likeable, honest, straightforward main character with friends & co-workers that are relatable and a peek into small town life with a who-done-it as the mechanism for spending time with them, this is for you.
I thought I found a new series. First, I don't like the narrator. Her voice is annoying. Second, Abbey is financially independent so instead of working she butts her nose into a murder mystery? Really? She watches her sister on the brink of getting a PhD and this is all she is interested in? It sounds like she is a bored rich girl. Third, I'm from Houston and I have never heard anyone say when the skies do open up, it will be like a cow peeing on a flat rock. And, there are many others. I won't be buying another book in this series. I did not find Abbey smart or funny, just annoying. She needs to find another hobby.
I have read the first and second book of this series and will probably read the third. If I have nothing else to read. While it is entertaining, there are things about the book that is annoying. While Jake and her family are well developed characters, many of the other characters seem to fall into stereotypes. I know that small towns are prone to gossip, but I wonder if people in Maine all have guns and tend to be closed mouth about their feelings and family. It sounded like Graves was talking about a small town in the Appalachians. I guess that is a stereotype that I have about that region. Also, the tie with New York should be cut. Is this the only town in Maine that people from New York want to? And does Jacobia have to know them? I thought New York was a big city. Anyway, it was a good story. I like the developments with Jacobia's family. Like I said I will read another book in this series.
